Demolition Methodology:1170497

Abstract

This is a report that gives details of a proposed demolition methodology and reconstruction of various buildings in a site which is located in the United Kingdom. In this project, the existing buildings on the ground shall be demolished before beginning the reconstruction work. It is worth noting that the parts which shall be determined usable such as the façade shall be retained and reused in the construction process. However, this shall only apply after assessing the quality of the façade. In this report, various techniques applied for demolition process shall be explored. The two types of demolition include use of explosives and non-explosives. These methods are further divided into wrecking ball, implosion, high reach arm and stripping out techniques. However, checking on the location of the building, non-explosive type of demolition shall be applied to spare the surrounding structures and the people living in the area. In this report, various safety requirement during demolition process shall be discussed in details since the process is risky and can lead to loss of life and property. The safety regulations shall base on the requirements of CDM. Considering the façade retention, the building located on the Princess street shall be spared since it is still in a good quality. The design and choice of appropriate structural elements shall begin by choosing the right foundation followed by structural frames. The internal finishes such as the ceilings shall be discussed. This will be followed by locating services such as HVAC, plumbing and electrical fittings. Roof types shall also be discussed. However, in this area curved roof will be the most appropriate since the area experiences heavy snow falls. Additionally, fire protection and escape root will be discussed in details and finally, the principles of durability on these elements shall be considered. Architectural and structural drawings shall be developed which will be used in coming up with new development.
