Executive Summary

The wellbeing projects are mostly used for catalysis of the culture and inner wellbeing. The wellbeing projects aims in cultivation of social change that are human centric and is mostly realized by the process of extraordinary collaboration and innovation. The wellbeing project by NAH is undertaken with an aim that effectively focus on personal growth through lifestyle adjustments. The project focuses on promoting the importance of eating healthy, sleeping healthy along with the needs of physical activity. The project team aims to achieve a positive result with the undertaken wellbeing project. The scope of the wellbeing project is to improve the lifestyle of individual. The accomplishment of this project, however, depends on the plan prepared for development and execution of the project. The plan prepared should be operative enough to recognize the key risks and the issues linked with the wellbeing project. Effective management of key project risks will ensure successful project completion. The success of the wellbeing project is accomplished by ensuring healthy living among the individual. The first step towards achievement of success is to ensure is to promote healthy living environment and this can be achieved by promoting the need of healthy eating and sleeping. Accomplishment of the wellbeing project is further influenced by people’s acceptance of the need of healthy living and promoting healthy living practices. Several health issues can arise if an individual is not having proper sleep. Healthy sleeping habit is promoted in this wellbeing project to protect mental health, physical health and quantity of life and safety. Healthy eating denotes well balanced and refined intake of the nutrients to ensure a healthy life. The undertaken project aims in improving the quality of life. In the following section, the detailed plan for project execution is executed.  

1. Part 1: Introduction

Project Management (PM) can be well-defined as the procedure of planning, monitoring and controlling the different characteristics of a project (Kerzner 2017). Effective project management becomes a necessity to guarantee that all the key purposes of the project is achieved. A project can be termed as successful only if it is completed within the specified cost, quality and performance. PM is a planned process that starts with securing the agreement to begin a particular work. On securing the agreement, the actual planning of the undertaken project starts (Meredith, Mantel Jr and Shafer 2017). The process of developing a project plan generally involves analysis of the business specimens and requirements. After approval of the plan developed, the process of project monitoring and control is realized. The closing procedure of the project is preceded by feedback collection process. Thus, it can be indicated that PM is an approach of ensuring that all the project criteria and specifications are met as per the expectations of the project owner and the stakeholders.

APM defines PM as an application of several processes, method, knowledge,  and skills experience to guarantee that the key purposes of the project are met (Heagney 2016). PMI on the other hand defines project to be a temporary endeavor that has a defined beginning and end time. Accomplishment of any project is mostly linked with the ability of the manager to deliver the undertaken project within the scope, time and cost and in a desired quality. The iron triangle outlines the key constraints of PM (Pollack, Helm and Adler 2018). The iron triangle model specifies that the project managers need to work within the budget, scope and schedule to deliver a successful project.

The achievement of any commenced project further depends on the effectiveness of the team roles. Belbin labels team role as a propensity to contribute, behave and interrelate with the members of a team, in a precise manner. Belbin outlines that there are creators, such as plant and resource investigator, there are implementer, such as team worker and implementer, there are leaders such as coordinator and shaper, and there are completers, such as monitor evaluated and complete finisher (Fisher, Hunter and Macrosson 2001). Proper role play is essential to ensure project accomplishment.

In PM, the role of project stakeholder is quite integral. The stakeholder theory is mainly defined as a theory of organizational management that helps in maximizing the profits accruing to the stakeholders (Mir and Pinnington 2014.). The execution of an undertaken project largely depends on the stakeholders’ needs and expectations.

In PM, the project life cycle play a noteworthy role. The key stages of project life cycle comprises of the concept phase, definition phase, development and handover and closeout phase. The development phase can be further subdivided into design and build phase (Too and Weaver 2014). The project lifecycle is integral as it divides the project into different manageable phases.

Cost, quality and time management is essential to ensure an expected project performance. The performance of a project is principally reliant on on the monitoring process that is considered to monitor the project progress (Branco  et al. 2015). Therefore, effective project monitoring and planning ensure successful project delivery.

2. Part 2: Well Being Project Define

2.1. Project Description 

The undertaken wellbeing project by NAH focuses on the personal growth of an individual through lifestyle adjustments. The project aims in guiding different individuals towards healthy living. The project aims in generating an awareness regarding the need of healthy eating, sleeping and effective physical activity. The project is planned in such a manner that it addresses the key deliverables of the project. The final result of the project is a diary that will help an individual to track and maintain healthy lifestyle by adopting healthy habits, which include regular workouts, eating healthy and catching enough sleep.

2.2. Business Benefits 

The wellbeing project can help in achieving certain effective business benefit in long run. The successful promotion and advertising of this project can catch the interest of the sponsors who will be investing in the wellbeing project of NAH. The well-being project can be implemented in a corporate setting to promote healthy habits of the employees, which will help the employees to work more effectively. Therefore, success of this project can help in gaining good business benefits. The key business benefit of the wellbeing project undertaken by NAH is to generate revenue by promoting healthy living habits among the individuals or in a corporate setting.

2.3. Key Risks 

The wellbeing project is subjected to certain key risks, management of which becomes as necessity. The risk management procedure in the undertaken project is the part of initial planning process of the well-being project, which ensures that the undertaken project is delivered without any major issues.

2.3.1. Initial Planning and Risk Management 

The initial planning process involves identification of the key risks linked with the wellbeing project. The risk management process involves identification, assessment and mitigation of any risk or issues from a project. The key risks and the risk mitigation approach is documented in the risk register below-

2.4. Project Life Cycle 

The wellbeing project lifecycle involves four distinct phases, which are project concept, definition, development and closure (Refer to figure 1). Each phase has certain specific deliverables and milestone.

2.4.1. Tools and Technique used 

As a part of initial planning, the preliminary risk management procedure is undertaken in the project. However, the design phase of the project will require more detailed planning and therefore the use of certain effective PM tools is a necessity. For detailed risk management, the use of risk registers and risk matrix is recommended (Marcelino-Sádaba et al.  2014). Since stakeholder play an integral role in project execution, the power and influence of the stakeholders will be evaluated using the power influence matrix (Eskerod, Huemann and Ringhofer 2015).

2.4.2. Gantt Chart 

The schedule and the phases of the project along with the milestones are indicated in the figure below-

2.5. Role in the project 

My role, based on Belbin’s team role is that of a co-coordinator, implementer and shaper. I will plan and coordinate the project and will shape it to ensure that all the key project specifications are met.

3. Part 3: Well Being Project Design 

The design phase is associated with developing of a comprehensive plan for execution of the project. This phase is subjected to a detailed risk management process which will help in easier identification of the major issues persisting in the wellbeing project. The comprehensive business case and plan is documented in the following section.

3.1. Business Case 

3.1.1. Project Description 

The wellbeing project by NAH aims in promotion of healthy living through proper physical activity, healthy eating and catching an adequate amount of sleep. The project involves several activities such as promoting the need of healthy eating, development of guide for healthy eating and physical activity and development and launch of a diary planner which will help the individuals in tracking their daily intake, the amount of sleep and the physical activities they are performing.

3.1.2. Approach 

A traditional project management approach is chosen to accomplish the project in a proper manner (Fleming and Koppelman 2016). The project life cycle involves certain sequential and pre-planned phases that will ensure successful delivery of the wellbeing project undertaken by NAH.

3.1.3. Limitations 

The key limitations of the wellbeing project are indicated as follows-

1. The project does not involve imparting training related to different physical activities

2. The project does not involve arranging any private or one to one sessions.

3.1.4. Benefits 

The main benefits of successful project execution are indicated as follows-

1. The project will promote healthy livings habits of the individuals

2. The project is subjected to revenue generation on collaboration with any corporate setting

3.2. Project Management Plan 

3.2.1. Execution Strategy 

The project undertakes a traditional approach of execution, where the entire project is divided into certain manageable phases (Meredith, Mantel Jr and Shafer 2017). The execution strategy is to develop a detailed plan for project accomplishment and following that plan to fulfill the objectives of each project phase.

3.2.2. Team Development 

The team development process for this project follows Belbin’s team role structure. The team involves an executive sponsor, a business lead, a project management and a senior supplier.

3.2.3. Scope Development 

The scope of the wellbeing project is to generate awareness among the individuals to change their lifestyle towards a healthy living habit.

3.2.4. Resource Scheduling 

The resources needed to execute the wellbeing project by NAH is indicated in the picture below-

The resource sheet in the figure above indicates the human resources and the materials needed to successfully execute the wellbeing project undertaken by NAH.

3.2.5. Cost Estimating and Budgeting 

The detailed cost breakdown in consideration to the developed plan is designated in the cost table below-

The figure indicates the total budget of the project is $46,780.

3.2.6. Quality Planning 

The quality planning process involves continuous quality monitoring and quality check of the final diary to be launched

3.2.7. Organizational Planning 

The undertaken project is associated with vision and values of the main organization who is in charge of successful project execution.

3.2.8. Risk Planning 

The risk planning involves, identification, assessing and monitoring of the risk so that the mitigated risks does not return to the project.

3.2.9. Procurement Planning 

As a part of procurement planning, a detailed procurement plan is prepared that documents the details of the suppliers associated with this project (Too and Weaver 2014).

4. Part 4: Well Being Project Deliver 

The delivery of the wellbeing project was conducted in a planned manner. The project team was set up following Belbin’s team roles. The business case prepared was justified, which further helped in development of a detailed plan.

4.1. Project monitoring and Control 

The undertaken project is monitored in each phase to ensure successful project delivery. The project manager play the part of project supervisor as well in this project to guarantee that the wellbeing project is distributed as per the prepared project plan (Muller 2017).

4.2. Project Plan Execution 

The project is executed in a planned and sequential manner. The successful completion of each phase ensures start of the next phase. The resources are allocated for each task as per their expertise to ensure smooth project execution.

4.3. Quality Assurance and Quality Control 

A quality control executive is hired to check and ascertain that the project is being delivered as per the desired quality. In Case the project fails to deliver the expected quality, the activities might need to be repeated (Heldman 2018). The quality control process has guaranteed the quality assurance process in this project.

4.4. Performance Reporting 

Each team member need to report the performance of each phase to the project manager and the business lead. This is subjected to regular report generation. Regular performance reporting guarantee that the project is implemented in accordance to the plan prepared.

4.5. Contract Administration 

The wellbeing project involves very few suppliers. All the suppliers are trustworthy and hence require minimal administration. All the suppliers need to report to the project manager during every group meeting.

4.6. Change Control 

The change control process in the project is executed as per plan. For any identified change, the permission of the sponsor is taken. On approval of the change request by the sponsor, the change is implemented in the project (Young 2016). There has been no major changes in the project throughout the project execution phase.

4.7. Schedule Control 

As a part of the schedule control process, the projected progress is compared with the actual progress (Verzuh 2015). The project scheduling is done in an effective manner by allocating maximum time for each task to eliminate the risk of project delay.

4.8. Cost Control 

Cost control is essential for this project since the project is associated with certain financial risks (Costantino, Di Gravio and Nonino 2015). As a part of the cost control process, the project team has ensured that there is no delays in project execution. This has ensured that the entire project is completed within the budget.

4.9. Risk Monitoring and Control 

Risk monitoring in this project was needed to ensure that a project of desired quality is delivered. The risk monitoring and control process involved effective project supervision to ensure that the mitigated risks does not return to the project.

5. Part 5: Well Being Project Develop 

The successful completion of the development phase paves the way for successful project closure. The success of the wellbeing project undertaken by NAH is largely dependent on the execution of the same as per plan. In the subsequent section, the project results and the issues faced in the project is documented

5.1. Project Results

The wellbeing project undertaken by NAH is a success as it has been able to accomplish the key goals and objectives. By the end of the project, the undertaken project should be able to successfully launch the diary.

5.1.1. Project Benefits 

The key benefits associated with the execution of the wellbeing project by NAH is indicated as follows-

1. Successful awareness generation among the individuals

2. Revenue generation

3. Successful launch of the diary

5.1.2. Issues Faced 

Although the undertaken project is a success, there are certain issues that has been faced in the project. There have been an issue regarding team forming and delegation of team roles. Also, during the execution phase, certain issues were faced related to decision making. However, these issues were minor and it did not affected the project execution.

5.2. Project Handover 

The project handover process is preceded by detailed project evaluation to check if the success criteria of the project is met. On successful project evaluation the project handover process will be executed (Müller  et al. 2014). The business case that has been developed for the project had documented the project benefits and limitation. The wellbeing project undertaken by NAH will be able to generate profits if it is integrated with a corporate setting to promote healthy lifestyle of the employees of the organization. I have worked actively in this project to guarantee that the undertaken project is accomplished successfully and handed over in a successful manner. However, there were scope of addressing the key limitations of the wellbeing project. Hence, it can be said that there is a scope of improvement in the undertaken project.

5.3. Lesson Learned 

The wellbeing project had been a great learning experience for me. While working in this project, I have gathered knowledge about various PM processes, tools and techniques that will help me to achieve my goals. One of the key lesson learnt associated with this project include the team formation. Effective team formation play a crucial role in ensuring successful project execution. Along with that, it is integral for the project team to have an idea of the basic project management tools and techniques to design and prepare a working plan for a project. The project further documents the importance of risk management in an undertaken project. The risk management process ensure that no critical issue delay the execution process of the project.

6. Application to My Career 

This project and this module has helped me to get a clear idea of the various tools and techniques needed for planning and execution of a project. While working on this project, I have gathered certain essential hard skills which include working with MS project to develop realistic project schedule. Along with that, I have gathered certain soft skills as well. One of the most important soft skills that I have gathered in this process is that of a team work. I have understood the importance of team work and have understood the need of effective leadership to motivate the team in working towards a common goal. This module has helped me to enhance my skills of active listening and patience. While working closely with the project team, I have gathered the soft skills of patience and have become more flexible. I have learnt to be responsible towards the work that has been assigned towards me and I believe that it will help me in my professional career as well. This process has facilitated me to learn about the Belbin team role, which has further helped me to identify my capability as a coordinator.
