Introduction

The field of psychology tries to understand the mindset of the individuals living in the society. Their thought process and feelings are sought to be understood. There are many psychoanalytic models and cognitive based theories which have attempted to understand human behavior. The purpose of this paper is to examine the Experiential Family Therapy theories and to contrast it with another psychoanalytic model.

Discussion

The Experiential Family Therapy is considered to be an intuitive approach which seeks to use certain multisensory and active technique (“(Old Copy) Carl Whitaker- Usefulness of Non-Presenting Symptoms Parts 1 and 2”, 2020). Such mechanisms which are used are those of drawings and role playing. The main objective of such techniques is to uncover the required information from their children by showing more affection and love towards them. The Experiential Family Therapy is considered to be more useful and effective when the traditional forms of verbal communication cannot be used.

When contrasted to the model of psychoanalytic as developed by Freud, it can be seen that Freud mainly emphasizes on the importance of parents in the development of their child. He focused more on verbal forms of communication. However, in the context of the Experiential Family Therapy, it can be seen that it is more developed in the sense that it tries to employ other mechanisms of non-verbal communication.

The Experiential Family Therapy can be observed in the light of system based model as it allows to understand the changes in behavior of an individual under the influence of the other family members. In other words, the surrounding environment is taken in to consideration YouTube, (2016.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it can be seen that the Experiential Family Therapy theory is important to understand the functioning of an individual in the context of his or her home environment. It is significant to observe the impact of the immediate environment and its implication on the concerned individual.
