The number of brands of each product which were investigated ranged from 3 – 4 in numbers. Since, the types of brands for washing detergents, toothpaste, breads & margarine were many in number only 3-4 brands were investigated.
Toothpaste: Colgate, Sensodyne, Close Up & Arm Hammer
Washing detergents: Surf, Tide, Fab & Bold
Breads: Bread Sticks, Brown Bread, Buns & White Bread
Margarine: Flora, Pure, Clover & Bertolli
- Are price differences related to differences in quality? Do they vary from time to time?
Yes, there are price differences amongst the products mentioned above in the categories mentioned above. The difference in the price is not due to the difference in the quality of the products offered to the customers but due to the ingredients which have been used in the manufacturing of the same. Yes the prices vary from time to time. One of the major reasons which have been surveyed for the change in the prices is due to the demand for the particular product at that point of time.
- Explain why you have selected the particular items you chose to investigate. For instance, were they the cheapest or the most expensive?
The selected items mentioned above have been investigated as they are the most used products by the customers in that particular segment of goods. The investigation of the products has not been done by taking into consideration the price factor. One of the major reasons for the same is due to the useability of the products rather than the cost factor.
- From which supermarkets did you select the items? Why did you select these particular stores?
Some of the supermarkets which were selected to investigate the items have been listed as under. They are as follows:

Þ Four Square Supermarkets
Þ Giant Hypermarkets

Þ Wall-Mart
All the above mentioned supermarkets have been selected as it earns a profit in Crores in one day. All the supermarkets listed above are the highest rated super markets & people tend to buy all the products from the same. These supermarkets consist of all the items whenever required.

The report would be used by the readers to have a clear idea regarding the number of brands of each product which were investigated for the given products. Though, there are price differences amongst the above mentioned categories i.e. toothpaste, washing powders, breads & margarine.
