PART II (50 marks)

In well written essay of around 300 words, answer the following question.

  1. Team working is one of the core skills for employability. According to Schein (1980), teams form for both functional and psychological reasons. Write an essay discussing the functional and psychological reasons according to Schein theory. (This question will test your essay writing and paraphrasing skills.)

The Schein theory in regards to management is a critical theory which discusses various organisational structures and its adaptations in an organisation. An organisation is a mixture of various employees each pertaining to a different skill and have different employability. The organisation is created when it is able to adapt the skill, knowledge and expertise of the different employee and creates a team. Hence a team works depends on the attributes of the members of the team and how efficiently the different attributes are combined to form a productive day at work (Schein, 2016). Thus, the functional reason for creating a team as per the Schein Theory is different members of the team provide a different skill set. The effective use of the team would be to multitask an operation or goal to reach the desired outcome faster. Hence a task has different steps which needs to be completed, and if the employees having the same skill set are used it would be a time consuming affair. Hence different employee with different skills are clubbed together which efficiently leads to the completion of the task without delay. The psychological reason for team work which encourages employability as humans are always finding competition to complete a work or achieve a target. Hence if certain individuals are combined as a team they would all have the same goal to achieve the desired target together which can increase the efficiency of the individuals as a team. Hence thus, to increase the efficiency of the individuals a team is created. Often, only such goals may be achieved by one person in a certain manner. As a consequence, the person requires the support of someone collaborating for him so that the reliable and active strategies of others are useful in their attempts to attain the same goal. Therefore, one of the greatest talents to get is to be employable. We can have qualities that aid in job team building (Duerr, Holotiuk and Wagner 2018).
