The Necklace, also known as the The Diamond Necklace is one of the best short stories written by Guy De Maupassant and published in the year 1884. The story is said to be one of the best short stories written by the French author Guy De Maupassant. The story also has a twist in its conclusion which is a well-known feature of the stories written by Maupassant himself. The essay will discuss the situation of the devotion which the character of Mr. Loisel have for his wife Mrs. Loisel in the story itself.

The purpose of this essay is to defend the devotion which Mr. Loisel have fir his wife Mrs. Loisel in the story itself.

In the short story, “The Necklace”, I feel that the author Guy De Maupassant, rightly portrayed the love and the devotion which the character of Mr. Loisel have for his wife Mrs. Loisel. While reading the short story itself, the idea came to my mind that in the short story, I found Mr. Loisel to be a hard-working man who loves his wife and is always looking for ways to make her happy. He is identified by the readers to be a man who is satisfied with his position in the society.  I feel that it is at the end of the story, to prove his love and devotion to his wife, Mr. Loisel makes the ultimate sacrifice. This, I feel proves to the readers and also defends the love and devotion that Mr. Loisel have for his wife (Dugan, 2014).

I feel that the short story The Necklace, indeed portrays the theme of love and sacrifice to the readers of the story itself. The author tells the readers that the love for an individual would cause a person to even sacrifice the thing which he loves most. I believe that this is evidenced in the character of Mr. Loisel who makes the ultimate sacrifice for his wife in the story itself (Maupassant et.all, 2015).

Thus, from the above paragraphs, the reader concludes that the author Maupassant in the story The Necklace, rightfully portrays the subject matter of love and sacrifice through the portrayal of the main characters of the story itself.
