Two issues faced by tourism industry?

Tourism is considered to be the biggest industry in the world. Tourism implies to traveling for leisure, recreation or business purposes. Tourism or the travel business industry has been facing various challenges from time to time.

There are various TV channels, Journal, Newspapers and magazines which have been raising issues the international tourism industry is facing. It not makes citizens aware of different issues but provides updates of things happening in this industry every day. The following material would throw light on two different issues raised in last 1 month –

1.Nigerian Army warns militants not to travel in uniform or they will get arrested

The Nigerian army has strictly warned its troops to adhere to the law and desist from traveling in their uniform. The corps of  Military police and Intelligence may arrest anyone who fails to follow the order. It has been observed  by the authorities that Nigerian soldiers are seen doing so which is not at all official.

There is a need to educate the troops. Therefore, commanders and commanding officers  have been asked to educate and take strict actions for those not adhering to the memo which says – “ban on traveling in military uniform” and is duly signed by Brigadier-General J.N. Nimyel on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff.

The Uniform off Law was made after March 2 shooting at Frankfurt International Airport in Germany. Following Law & Order in state is a responsibility of every citizen. We must remember such orders are passed for public safety so they are important to each one of us.

2. Air Travel suffering from slow down –

According to the information revealed by trade association IATA ( The International Air Transport Association ), The air travel is suffering from slow down as the Passengers demands are slowing.

Airline Industry forecast 2011 -2015 is a tool to analyze global air travel in details for the period of 5 years i.e. 2011 to 2015. The profit forecast is 78% weaker than the year 2010, the net profit being  USD 4 billion. The passenger and cargo demands are becoming weaker.

The year 2011 has given a challenging start because –

1, Natural disaster in Japan.

2. Sharp rise in oil prices.

3. Unrest in north Africa and middle east

All these reasons plus many more when clubbed together makes the industry net profit being as low as USD 4 billion this year.

Airline Industry in Continued Crisis state: According to IATA findings in Sep 2011 airline share prices are now as down as 32 % so far this year.

Conclusion

Besides the above mentioned two issues of air travel, the tourism industry on a wider front grew at the rate of about 5 % in beginning of year 2011. Worldwide international tourism surpassed 124 millions in the month of Jan and Feb. 2011 compared to year 2010 where it was at 119 million in the same period. Overall, the industry is earning great revenues and doing a good job worldwide.
