Task 1:

Assessment is quite essential in order to understand the progress of the student as well as also evaluate the skills of the teacher. Various kinds of assessments are carried out by different teachers to understand their students in a proper manner. I believe that the assessment should be carried in a manner so that not only the activeness of the student is determined but also at the same time the teacher should know whether the communication between the student and the teacher is remaining proper or not. I believe assessment should be carried out by various activities and not by conducting strict exams. The activities should be such that in a fun manner the test is conducted for the students. This concept of assessment is very much related to the three theories of Assessment for Learning, Assessment of Learning and Assessment as Learning. Through activities the teachers can study their student activeness and memory and thus can evaluate how much the teaching has been successful with the student. Accordingly the teacher can improve the method of teaching. This shows the concept follows Assessment for Learning. Again various assessment activities that are carried out will also show the interest level of the students in various fields and their enjoyment towards different fields and so the goals of the students can be determined by both the students and teachers accordingly and thus it complies with Assessment as Learning. And also activities based assessments also help the teacher to understand the interest of students towards certain fields and the way better opportunities can help the student become expert in those fields and so it also follows Assessment of Learning. Thus, activities based assessment can be followed widely in order to carry out proper assessments of education.

Task 2:

Rubrics are known as a scoring grid in which the performance of the people are noted and finally used for assessing the skills of the people. It is basically used in academics for recording the score of the students in their exams and finally assessment of the score is done by the teachers. Rubrics are used for various purposes in the academics and are believed to have lot of potentials. The main advantages of rubrics are that is helps in making improvements in the style of the teaching, has contribution in the sound assessment and are also essential in providing information for making improvements in the various teaching programs. It also helps in making improvements in the skill levels of the students. Thus it has high potential use. In academics in can be used in all levels but it works mostly with minority students or the students of the first generation. The rubric method is used even for university level students. It also helps in classifying the students based on their skills and the teachers can determine which students need special attentions. Rubrics are quite different from simple grading system because in rubrics the score always come with an explanation from the teacher’s side. Like if a student has scored B and another student have scored A then in rubric grading system the teacher mention the points that lack in the student scoring B. This helps the student to carry out self assessment. Because of all these reasons the rubric system is said to be of high value and potential.

Task 3:

Personally I have seen assessment where teachers after making a lesson understand to the students take test in order to assess whether the students are understanding the teachings or not. In the test the students are provided with a set of questions which they are suppose to solve at a given time. Then the papers are corrected by the teachers and marks are provided and based on the marks the students are classified into different ranks like the person getting highest mark stand 1st and then it goes on. So the assessment that was being followed is known as summative assessment in which the entire knowledge of the student is analyzed based on the performance in the examinations.

The teachers and students were engaged in summative assessment where teachers based on the performances of the students use to give them ranks. The method also helped the teachers to understand the students who were weak in studies.

The summative assessment method is not highly beneficial when it come to learning. This is because the students at many points get discouraged due to low grades and the depression causes more degradation in the performances. But still the summative learning process do have some benefits like the student gets serious towards their studies and even after they are made to understand the lessons they keep the lessons in their memories. Self assessment of the student is also one benefit of this method and also the assessment technique helps the teachers to understand and make changes in their teaching method. But currently in today’s school lot of emphasis are being given to formative assessment.
