Question: What are the reasons and mitigations to the problem of group error?
In the article, the authors have described about the inception of the concept of ‘group think’ and the probable challenges that it has faced since then. This theory had come into effect by the efforts of Irving Janis (Sunstein & Hastie, 2014). However, there are two reasons as to why the groups are not able to perform as per their best expectations. The failure of the informational signals prevents the groups to work smoothly. Another cause for the failures of the group is reputational pressures (Sunstein & Hastie, 2014). If the members of the groups are able to rectify some of their biases, some positive outcomes might be seen within the organizational context.
