Sawyer ,who won the award says that science fiction is a fiction based on philosophy, as this genre of literature is very creative,along with it, creativity developed in it itself becomes a part of its enquiry. In science fictions, we examine questions from non human view. Science fiction are based on the event that has not happened, or yet to be happen. People are usually finding the different way to escape from the real world and the easiest way is science fiction. It allows people to enjoy the technology which might intend to invent in future. Science fiction films are speculative and the main elements of these films are science and technology.We can say that science fiction can be considered as pseudo science. The movie called ‘Forbidden Planet’ has many science fiction in it, along with it give some important message, that is, gradual development of species towards technological perfection does not ensure the loss of instinctive desires.Many science fiction movies has been based on magical and supernatural powers.This has created a link between science fiction and religious belief.Scientists have played a different role in science fiction films. The number of television serials was made based on science fiction, whose main element was comic. Very few science fiction films have been made in 1960s, but some of the films made in this period have transformed the cinema of science fiction. Film like Space Odyssey with visual effect which was groundbreaking, has bought realism. Movie like Barcarolle, it has shown the side of the earlier science fiction films,which were quite silly. Science fiction films in 1970s has shown threat to humanity from the adversities created by themselves.Akira,the Japanese film had a big influence outside the Japan,in other parts of the world,when it was released.During 1990s,there was a theme of computer human interface since at that time world wide web has been emerged. Computer has played an important role for films based on science fictions for its production,as well as for its special effects..More complicated effects were produced,after the development of sophisticated software.The visual quality has been enhanced greatly,due to the development of softwares. Jurassic Park and Robocop
Jurassic Park is a 1993 American science fiction based on adventure which was directed by Stevel Spielberg and basically based on the novel by Michael Crichton. Jurassic Park is considered as one of the landmark in the use of computer generated imagery.The story is like after a death of a park worker by small meat eating dinosaurs, investors of Hammond’s ,who has created an amusement park has demanded visit of experts to the park,and certify about its safety. Most of the dinosaurs featured in he film referencing the Jurassic period except Brachiosaurus and Dilophosaurus did not exist until the cretaceous period(Stephen Jay Gould).Brachiosaurus, who was the first dinosaur seen by the park visitors was really different,was not accurately depicted.There is a scientific evidence that they have unlimited vocal capabilities, then also in a movie,they were represented with whale song and donkey song. In the movie,the velociraptor shown were much larger,than in actual.Velociraptor were a part of group of animals called dromaeosaur.The dromaeosours actually lived from 150 million year ago to the end of 65 millions year ago.They are considered to be a part of dinosaur group.Scientist do think.,that in real dromaesaurs were not smart than dolphins and primates as shown in Jurassic park.They had large brain size,but it was nowhere near to the size of brain of the mammals.Like in movie,dinosaurs have been brought back,but it is not possible in reality,as their extint have been permanent.There are various reason for this.One of the reason is that several millions years ago,DNA has been degraded which cannot be repaired,or we can say that information has been lost forever. In a science fiction films,Jurassic Park stories,they have shown a silly thing of using DNA of frog for plugging the hole in the DNA.There are many problems,even after all this problems,if scientist mange to hatch dinosaurs,they would be entering into a world of risk and danger,and they will not be able to resist themselves.there has been a lot of change in 65 millions years,so we can say that dinosaurs extint is permanent.We can enjoy dinosaurs in books or films based on science fiction.Jurassic park has won the Hugo award in 1994 for best dramatic presentation.
Robocop is an American science fiction film which has been released in 1987,Paul Verhoeven was the one to direct it and it was produced by Michael Mixer.Robocop includes various theme in relate to media,corruption,about the identification.It also includes theme like masculine behaviour and human nature.The story is to protect the city of Detroit,Mihigan.Omni Consumer Product runs several program to find robotic replacement.This organisation has used the body of dead person ,and has utilized it for the construction of Robocop.Robocop has been able to deal with the crime and violent of the city,which created fear factor amongst the police,that they can be replaced by robots. The robot can still retain the memories of that man,his family and child,by which it is made and he himself helps Omni Consumer Product to reach to his killer. This is a story where human being has died and he got revived,where artificial substitute has replaced the all parts of the body.The hero is dead, and at the same time he got a new mechanical body.This movie has created fantasy amongst the people,who never wanted to die and want to return again and again(Zizek,Slavoj ,1992).In science fiction movie we can see how Robocop is made, but is it possible to make Robocop in reality. It is almost an impossible task. There are quite of hurdles in doing that. There will rejection of objects like metals and plastics ,which are all foreign object for a body and it can cause various kinds of infection. Still there is no full system ,by which organs of brains can be replaced ,as human’s brains are very complex, along with it ,they are very sensitive ,so full Robocop is not possible, and then what will be the difference between robots and human beings ,if they will start having their own minds.
