An Investigation into Motivational Needs and their Influence: 1021778

Introduction

1.1 Background of the study

The study will be conducted to identify the influence that motivation have on the social identification of people and the behaviour. As stated by Peters (2015) in the modern world, it is essential that motivation be provided to people on every front so that they can commence work in a timely and proper manner without having any type of problem. The fact that motivation can be considered as important for developing the lives of the people is an important aspect. The focus is on Apple, a leading company in the technological industry known for its innovative technologies (Apple.com 2019). The manner in which the employees working in the company are motivated to socialise after organisational work will be the focus of the research.

1.2 Context

The problem statement that can be associated with the research is that motivational needs of the people can have an influence in gaining social identification. The behaviour of the people outside the organisation can be influenced by the manner in which they are treated in an organisation. In the case of Apple, the influence of the motivational factors are analysed that helps in the motivation of the people.

2. Purpose

The purpose of the research is to understand the manner in which motivation can be used for improving the social identification and behaviour of the people. The reason for this being a cause for concern in the modern world is that people are more involved in working and thus, the influence of the work pressure can have a negative impact on the social life. Therefore, the research sheds light on the factors that influence such motivation and the manner in which it can be used for improving the social identification of the people along with the behaviour.

2.1 Scope

The scope of the research is to understand the manner in which motivation can influence socialisation among people and the behaviour they have on other people.

3. Business strategy

3.1 Concept of motivation

Motivation can be considered as a need that requires satisfaction. Motivation can be in the form of actions undertaken willingness shown and objective set that can be achieved so that success can be gained. According to Ryan and Deci (2017), the importance of motivation is that it can help in causing a repetitive behaviour among the people so that they can perform well in the organisation and achieve personal as well as organisational goals. Bellemare et al. (2016) is of the opinion that motivation has also been considered as an important aspect that helps a person to move forward in life. Therefore, a link can be made between motivation for working positively as well as for gaining social identification for the employees at Apple.

3.2 Theories related to motivation

Several theories can be related with motivation out of which the most popular is Maslow’s need hierarchy theory. In this theory, Maslow had managed to divide the motivational needs of the people in various levels so that it can be prudent for the people to meet the needs in a systematic as well as significant manner. According to Campbell (2018), the application of Maslow’s hierarchy can be made for people seeking to meet the basic needs of life such as food and clothing. At the same time, people seeking to attain self-actualisation needs such as recognition can be attributed via the application of Maslow’s hierarchy needs. Apart from this theory, the application of Herzberg’s two factor theory can be used which can help to understand the factors that bring about hygiene as well as motivation while working (Deckers 2018).

3.3 Influence of motivation on social identification and behaviour

The influence that motivation has on the social identification can be attributed to the application of Maslow’s hierarchy theory. According to Lepper and Greene (2015), the fact that the social acceptance of the people is considered as an important motivational factor plays an important role in enhancing the social identification and behaviour of the people. The manner in which people are influenced or treated at work can have a severe consequence in the behaviour undertaken by the people.  Hence, Steers and Sánchez‐Runde (2017) is of the opinion that motivation at work as well as in social life is a necessity for people to develop.

3.4 Apple employee Australia

Apple employee Australia can be influenced by the application of Maslow’s hierarchy by ensuring that the employees understand the need for socialising (Apple.com 2019). The manner in which the employees are influenced at workplace can be attributed to the manner in which socialisation of the employees can take place. Therefore, it can be said that for Apple the employees have a feeling of self-respect because they recognised that they have the potential of doing challenging jobs and work hard to strive for better result (Apple.com 2019). It is the procedure of Apple when it hires employee they are given a part of the business, which is organised by them, which allows them to make decisions. In case of failure, they learn a lesson from their past mistake and make better planning decisions in future (Apple.com 2019). The fact that every employee of Apple are motivated to work in a proper manner and at the same time socialise with people outside work can have a positive influence on the manner in which Apple can continue to expand in the market.

3.5 Challenges

The challenge that may be faced by Apple in this context includes getting the employees motivated enough so that they can continue with socialising outside the workplace (Apple.com 2019). At the same time, challenges of Apple can be the fact that it can be difficult to maintain the factors that influence the motivational results from the employees in terms of behaving in a proper manner (Apple.com 2019). The application of Maslow’s theory in terms of social needs can be considered as a challenge since the employees have managed to attain a self-actualisation stage from which it can be difficult to socialise with people below the pay grade (Apple.com 2019).

4. Research methodology

The research methods include the research philosophy, research design as well as the research approach. For this research to be conducted in a proper manner, the use of positivism philosophy will be made so that a large sample population can be analysed. The application of deductive research approach will be made so that the objectives can be linked with the literature review and the descriptive research design will be used so that a detailed analysis will be made on the influence of motivational needs and the influence on social identification and behaviour.

The data collection method can be either primary or secondary analysis. The primary collection of data interprets the first hand analysis of the responses and experiences of the people, on the other hand the secondary research interprets data collected from sources such as books, journals or official websites. For this research, the collection of primary data in the form of survey questionnaire will be made. The survey will be on 50 employees working at Apple so that a clear analysis of the influence motivation have on the people can be made.

The sampling techniques can be either probability sampling or non-probability sampling. The selection of probability sampling technique can give rise to the selection of random sampling techniques in which every people in the sample can have an equal opportunity of being selected for the research. For this research, the sampling technique selected will be random sampling technique so that every people working at Apple can have equal chances of being selected for analysis.

5. Expected results

The anticipated findings based on the research will help to understand the manner in which motivation can be used for influencing the social identification as well as the behaviour. The research will hope to gain a non-biased and positive response from the employees of Apple based on the motivation that is provided to them. At the same time, the factors that promote the motivation and the application of appropriate theories will help to maintain a link between the research topic as well as the responses collected.

6. Conclusion

From the evidence gathered, it can be concluded that motivation is not only an important factor that is used for motivation people at an organisation but also can help in gaining social identification. The influence that motivation has on the social identification and behaviour can be related indirectly with the behaviour received at an organisation. Therefore, it can be said that for a company like Apple to succeed in the motivation of people it is necessary that it understands the social aspects that are associated with motivation. The application of Herzberg’s motivational theory can be well applied to link the motivational aspects of organisation along with that of the social identification that they possess.
