Project Aim

This project aims to provide the Arts and Writing operation within the Mars Hill Café with a critically evaluated picture of their social impact.

 

Project Scope

This project will focus on the social benefits that the Arts and Writing operation of Mars Hill Café manufacture.

 

In the context of working collaboratively with other consulting teams from the University of Western Sydney, this project will coordinate findings across consulting teams. In addition, this project will confer throughout the research, analysis and conclusion stages with other consulting teams.

 

This report will not consider the financial position of Mars Hill Café. However, it will focus on the social benefits it manifests and methods of measuring these. The project will analyse the distinction of Mars Hill Café to other organisations.

 

Project Limitations

There are several limitations that need to be taken into consideration when evaluating this tender documentation. Firstly, there is the issue of budget constraints. The budget has allowed for a total of 306 hours that will be spread across six consultants who will undertake the project.
A second limitation of this project is the relative inability to quantify the social benefits produced by the Arts and Writing operation of Mars Hill Café.

 

The management does not have access to any further funding for new projects.

 

Uncertainty as to where social enterprises fit into academia.

The objectives of the project are to:

  • Provide a roadmap for an evaluation of the social benefits the Arts and Writing operation of Mars Hill Café provides.
  • Evaluate those aspects that are most feasible within the project timeframe.

Project Deliverables

  • An oral Mid-term Presentation of the key reasons why a particular methodology is suggested and an assessment how far an actual analysis can be undertaken;
  • Final report that includes the following components:
    • A description of the strengths and weaknesses of the selected methodologies;
    • Suggestions on improvements on Arts and Writing component of the business and an evaluation of social benefits provided.
    • Presentation to organisation personnel of Key Findings in the Final Report

  • Provides a place for artist’s to obtain exposure. Promote their artwork. Feel recognised for their work. Kick start their career as there are probably few other avenues for them.
  • Exhibition each month with art, upstairs 4 weeks, downstairs 4 weeks.

  • Not many places to exhibit. Difficult to get space especially without experience. Opportunity.
  • For the community, its beneficial as they are exposed to art that they would probably not necessarily experience.

  1. Mars Hill Café is a social enterprise because it offers a place for people of all sections to learn Arts and Writing leading to an increase in literacy rates in the area. Thus provide greater education to the population in the field of arts.
  2. The social enterprise of the Mars Hill Café is also likely to provide integrate the entire community. The place would eventually become socio-cultural centre for individuals from all sections of society.
  3. Participation in Arts aims to develop the creative outlet for individuals. Moreover it enables to develop the imagination, cognitive skills as well enhance the problem solving skills of the individuals concerned.
