In the two-year course of my study, I have learnt a lot on what is expected of me as a civil engineering student, and as professional. I have gotten insight into the importance of basic common units that have immensely contributed to self-development and health. Such units include sex education, substance abuse and mental health. I am now able to observe my health status from the physical, emotional and mental perspective. Thus, I can avoid careless sexual engagements, the use of drugs and I’ve also learnt on the importance of opening up whenever one is under mental pressure. Good health is important for maximum productivity.
Further, I have developed exemplary communication skills in collecting information, analyzing, documentation and presentation of results from the numerous lab experiments, as well as preparing technical scholarly works required for the course. Also, I am now familiar with exam conduct, and its correlation to professional integrity. Moreover, I have gained appreciable engineering background knowledge, from the technical units we have undertaken so far. For instance, engineering survey has laid a comprehensive platform of understanding how geometry and vectors works in taking levels and deriving meaningful information from calculations. Theory of structures has laid a firm basis for structural design. I aspire to be a structural engineer in the future as I feel that I can fully apply myself and have a general understanding of other sub-disciplines.
