Discussion Question 1:
Bolman & Deal, Ch. 20 – Change and Leadership in Action
In this chapter, we read a case study involving a new principal entering a relatively new high school, which launched with high hopes and is now struggling in despair. The case presents the problems and concerns and the new principal makes some mistakes that haven’t improved the situation in his first week during the summer. He thinks about all he knows about the school, its history, and its present state. Using the four frames of Bolman and Deal, he analyzes the situation and reframes what seems to be happening in the school. Having read the chapter, especially what new principal King has come up with as the start of a plan, how would you conduct Monday morning’s meeting? What might your agenda look like? What would you “lead” with?
