This study has been focused on the sports and enhancement of self-esteem. Self-esteem is an important element of human being that can be enhanced by involvement in sports and enjoyment. It is known as socializing effect. The first aim is to examine if self-esteem can perceive frequency of sports involvement or vice-versa and the second aim is to analyze the bidirectional association between sports enjoyment and self-esteem. A longitudinal study was undertaken through 4 years on high school students. The study was conducted with 1492 students of eight high schools in Canada, Ontario with an average age of 9 to 13 years. The design was cohort-sequential. The results were measured with 5-point scale. Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale was used for self-esteem measurement. The study revealed higher degrees of self-esteem was related with greater involvement with sports.
The results did not find any significant difference based on gender. Internal and external validities were estimated. The study revealed positive relationship between self-esteem and sports involvement.
