Because Christmas is such a big holiday in the United Kingdom, British people mainly resort to traditional activities during this day. Most of Christians go to church and sing carols; during these functions they wear their best dresses and cloths. British families also have a tradition of having Christmas dinner during this time of the year, which they have between mid day and early afternoon on Christmas day. A Christmas dinner contains roast turkey or goose, Brussels sprouts, roast potatoes, cranberry sauce, rich nutty stuffing, tiny sausage wrapped in bacon and lashings of hot gravy. Christmas Pudding is the dessert of that day which is similar to fruitcake but it is streamed. It is brown pudding with raisins, nuts and cherries. It is served with custard or brandy sauce. Some English families have a traditional Christmas Tea during which they come together at Christmas day evening with their relatives to have party games. They drink tea with Christmas cake and Mince pies, variety of cheeses, variety of dips, snowmen buns, Yule log cake, carrots and celery sticks. Christmas cracker is another activity that is common among the British people. It is brightly cardboard tube decorated twisted of the end. It contains a small gift, a paper crown and a joke written in a small paper. When family, friends sit near the table the food cracker is distributed. To open it cross your arms and hold your cracker on the right hand and your neighbor cracker in the left hand then pull yours and your neighbor cracker. The other activities in Christmas include exchange the gifts between loves, relatives and friends. Giving gift in Christmas is related to the gift that the wise men (the Magi) gave it to Jesus. Queen’s Christmas message is one of the traditional features in the United Kingdom. Queen gives her Christmas message to the nation at three-clock afternoon. The Queen’s message is broadcasted on media around the United Kingdom.
