One of the management decisions that will have spectacularly negative impact on the organization or the business as a whole is the “Corporate Downsizing or Layoffs”. Downsizing refers to the process of reducing the workforce by the employer due to high levels of loss, changes in the technology, competition pertaining to the international market & loss of the government contracts (Ping Tang & Fuller, 1995).Most of the employers downsize the workforce within the organization by adopting various approaches such as imposing hiring freeze, early retirements, transfer of the employees, etc. While downsizing the employees the effects over the employee attitudes & reactions have been noticed. On the basis of recent research it has been examined that, there are varied negative effects of downsizing within the employees. Most of the organizations feel that, after downsizing they will be able to save huge amount of money, increase the levels of productivity, provide job satisfaction to its employees, and will evaluate high levels of performance. But, after downsizing of the workforce the enterprise shall take into consideration the negative effects of the same. The organization shall take into the various negative aspects which might harm the growth of the business in the future years to come (MacDonald, 2012).Based upon a recent survey, it has been observed that there are various negative impacts of downsizing the workforce within the enterprise. Once an employee is laid off, the existing employees within the organization experiences significant changes within corporate loyalty, job performance & job satisfaction, which leads to negative on the emotional as well as turbulence surroundings to change. These negative aspects amongst the employees who are laid off would lead to change in the attitudes as well as the behaviors (Ping Tang & Fuller, 1995).In the industry week survey it has been seen that 91.5% of the employees believed that due to diminished developments in career has led to high levels of negative impact on the morale of the worker (Ping Tang & Fuller, 1995). Furthermore, it has been reported that approximately 78.4% (Finkelstein, 2004) people working within the big organization feels that levels of productivity has also being declined due to major layoffs within the enterprise. Therefore, it would be suggested that managers shall take into consideration various ways in order to soften the blow of the necessary layoffs.With a reduction amongst the personnel from the organizations, the management shall keep in mind the fact that the remaining employees will not be able to maintain the stipulated levels of output. There would be an apparent change within the attitudes of the employee which would affect the performance of the company at large. Hence, new ways shall be taken into consideration in order to act competitive in a changing environment (Finkelstein, 2004).
