Education is one of the most critical and vital aspect that plays an important role in our life. Starting from our birth till death, we are in learning phase. There is no limitation of the learning aspects in our life. At each and every point of time and situation we get some different kind of learning that makes us more knowledgeable and skilful and the effective and integrated implementation of that learning makes us more practical and experienced person in our life.
To learn we need a guide who can be capable of making us learn the new changes and learning in our surroundings effectively. We sometimes learn by ourselves but as the criticality of the situation increases we need to consult or get guided by some more knowledgeable people who have more experience than us. The person may be a teacher, our parents, our friends, our elders or anybody. The main motive is to gain learning by an additional catalyst that may support and make us more effective in learning new things in an effective and integrated manner.
Most of the time we call that person a teacher and a teacher has a vital role in our life that helps and supports us to gain knowledge and extract the effective learning from the surroundings.
The main purpose of education is to gain knowledge and explore the capability within self and implement those ideas in an effective and efficient manner to make that idea more useful and integrated in our life for the betterment of our life and others as well.
Teaching is a natural process that may happen within self but sometimes needs an external catalyst to inculcate the new learning and extract the profitable learning and knowledge from the external happenings in surroundings.
The basic aim of education is to make the common people more capable of doing anything or adopting any new aspects by the process of learning from the happenings in our surroundings and our environment.
As per my opinion and analysis, the teaching system should be student centric that will provide better opportunities for the students to learn effectively and competitively. We should make a proper space for students equally that will help them to learn new knowledge and ideas in an effective and integrated manner.
If we talk about the ideals in the process of teaching, the first things comes in our mind is the person who all have been recognized by their learning and the theories in past and we are continuing their thoughts and knowledge to learn new things from them. Ideals may be the superior personality who provides us the path to learn new things in various ways such as by their ideas, views, examples, theories and various other modes.
According to Froebel (1782-1852), I agree every student has the potential to learn. But there is a need of an environment that is best suitable, stimulating, supporting them to learn effectively and efficient by various means and modes such as by risk taking and invites sharing of ideas students will grow emotionally, physically, mentally and socially. There are three components that I believe are beneficial to establishing such an environment.
(1) Teacher as a facilitator: A teacher should always work as a facilitator in our life to make the learning process more effective and integrated. They should take care of each and every aspects that may have an effect on the learning process.
(2) Allowing the child to discover learning through meaningful experiences: There should be an equal and effective environment that may help the children to discover and innovate new ideas and thought within self by the process of brainstorming, ideation and other idea generation techniques.
(3) Promoting respect for education, people and things: Three things are very obvious in learning and teaching process, respect for education, people and the things. These three aspects are the fundamental tools that may support us to gain knowledge in an effective manner and these aspects will also make an effective and interesting environment for the teaching process in our life.
What is the role of teachers?
Teachers work as a guide and facilitator in our life, whenever we need some assistance while facing any problem, we go to them to get their help in finding out the solution. A teacher is the person who makes us understand the new ideas and techniques that further helps us in understanding the situation and gain new knowledge within self and from surroundings. To make the whole process of teaching and learning more student centric, teacher- student relationship should be more effective and ethical. This will make an effective and transparent teaching system that will have a positive influence in on the society and environment. There are various roles of a teacher:
- To provide learning: To help the students in learning process. To provide the environment and steps that will make the students more effective and strengthen them to gain new learning in various ways such as from books, situational analysis and handling and others.
- To support in understanding a situation: Teacher works as a pillar for the students that provide a support to the students and helps them in understating new ideas and knowledge and their positive and effective implementation in life.
- To facilitate students: Teacher helps in facilitative the students, that will have a great effect on the teaching process and make a better learning environment.
- Provide intensive care for the learning space: It is again the role of the teach to provide a better and transparent learning space for all the students without any discrepancy and failure.
These are the most important roles of a teacher in our life. Teacher should always focus on these roles and responsibilities without any self interest then only we can think of an educated society and that will have an effect on the growth of the country and economy hand on hand.
How are students constituted?
Rousseau (1712-1778) in Nodding (2007) believed that learning is based around the student and they should be free to innovate and discover new knowledge according to their own interests and this will provide a better option for the students to learn in an effective and integrated manner. Students should always be polite and committed towards the learning and gaining new skills and knowledge wherever they are getting it. They should not skip any step of learning. This will add extra advantage in their learning process and have a good effect on the student’s perception for the long term and futuristic view of the learning and its outcomes.
Student should always work in a team effort and this will make them guide for themselves at a later stage. So they can create their own teaching environment and helps themselves in an effective and interest free manner. This will be a kind of win-win situation for the students to learn and gain knowledge in a team effort.
What forms of knowledge should be pursued?
Knowledge can be adopted and explored in any form such as an idea, an experience, an implication or any kinds of happenings may result in knowledge expansion. We can gain knowledge and some new learning from each and every single happening that is taking place in our surrounding and our external and internal world. But the main thing is that we should be able to grab all the opportunities without lacking any time. We should react then and there to understand the happening of the moments.
Knowledge is always there in each and every happenings but the main concern is to find out the learning and gain the knowledge for that particular happenings in our surroundings (internal and external). Learning has its own significance and importance in our life, and it is also obvious that knowledge never goes worthless. At any point of time and situation any knowledge can be used and utilized for the betterment of our life and happenings and handling any particular situation.
What types of teaching practices should be used?
There are various kinds of approaches and models that is being used by the teacher while teaching practices depending upon the kinds of crowd and the situation. Various thinkers and philosophers also provided some teaching models, Plato’s model of education is “Functionalist”. The students should be able to utilize the learning and theories in their real life happenings for the betterment of the society and the economy. Then only the education and learning system will have an effective and integrated optimization of knowledge in our daily life.
According to Rousseau, a child starts as a good learner and if being cultivated and procured in an effective and integrated manner then he/she will surely become a educated and efficient adult at later stage.
Teaching is a kind of banking system, where student is a depository and the teacher is the depositor of the knowledge and the learning. Both are interdependent for the knowledge sharing between each other. Other category of the teaching practices are problem- posing education system, where people develop their power sustain in the world and the way to make themselves more capable of sustaining in the world.
There can be any kind of teaching practices can be used and continued but the main concern and focus should be the effective sharing of knowledge among each other whether it is a group of students of the teacher- student mutual relationship/bonding. But the common objective should always be knowledge sharing and effective utilization of the knowledge for the betterment of the self and society as well.
What are both the possibilities and limitations of the paradigm/s.
There are always a kind of diversity among the student and the teacher in surrounding. This is an obvious and natural phenomenon. But rather than thinking over these aspects we can make an effective utilization of the mutual benefit and understanding by making a better and interdependent mutual relationship that will have an integrated effect on us.
There are various possibilities and limitation of the paradigm/s:
- The effect on the society: The teaching approached and considerations will have an effect on the society. The better and effective the education system the better chances of the growth of the individual and the society.
- Knowledge sharing base: It is a kind of knowledge sharing base that will work as a bridge to fill the gap between the inefficiency and efficiency with the particular person/student. The bridge should always be in working stage to keep the flow of knowledge within self at any stage of life and any point of time and situation.
- Implications for the betterment of self and society hand on hand: It has a better implications for the self actualization and realization and that is very much required to become a sincere and educated person in life.
Limitations:
- Self Interest may arise between the student-teach relationship: There are various limitations of the education paradigm such as the self interest may be a weakness for the education system and may ruin the paradigm.
- Negative aspects of the knowledge shared while teaching: Every coin has two sides, that is the reality. Same thing happen with the education/knowledge. If the positive aspects is being used it will really work as a boon for the particular person and society as well. But if not being utilized and implemented positively then it may have drastic disadvantages for the self and society as well. And its results may be very undesirable for the society and economy.
- No implications to the practical and real world phenomenon: If there is no implication of the education paradigm is done then it will have a limitation for the paradigm. There is always a requirement of the experimentation and the practical implications of the theory for the better and effective understanding of the stages and the implication to the outer and real world.
There are always a positive and negative aspects goes hand on hand with any concept. The same things happen with the learning and teaching aspects. If the implications and utilization is done in an effective and integrated manner then it will have a good effect on the individual and the society and on the other hand if not being used and utilized positively then it may have a drastic effect on the particular performance and society as well.
