“Shut up!” Jackson yelled with his husky voice messing his brown long hair up out of stress, throwing the book that says “Career courses” away on the ground.
“You don’t understand what I’m trying to tell you. Listen to me Jackson,” Michael replied taking the neck tie and glasses off, throwing the bag on the couch.
“I don’t want to listen to you, I don’t want to understand what you’re trying to tell me because you don’t listen to me, never!” Jackson continued, “have you ever thought of how I feel when I come back from school and no one is ever at home and if you are at home, you would lecture me and leave to work when you finish talking, you don’t even listen to me when I’m trying to discuss what career I should take, this is my last year of school dad! I’ve been all by myself since I was 12 when mum died, I wish you could have died instead of mum!”
Michael couldn’t reply back. He just stood there just staring at Jackson’s blue eyes as if he was disappointed in him, they stood there for about five minutes without any talking, and he began to talk slowly.“Look Jackson, I had a very long stressful day at work I don’t want to deal with you if we can’t talk like adults. If you don’t want to listen to me or understand me, then get out of this house Jackson. There is no point in you staying in this house, you can go live with your friend or somebody that you can understand, son.” Said father expecting Jackson to disagree with that idea and stay in this house.
“Fine, okay I’d rather do that than just live with here because my friends will love me and care about me unlike you dad!” Jackson yelled aggressively, his face was red from his anger, and ran out of the house without letting Michael say anything back to him.
“Jackson!” Michael yelled out but Jackson did not hear him and slammed the door loudly, father was bit upset but he managed to calm down and talked to himself, “Jackson won’t be able to find a house, even if he did, he’d realise that living with a real father is better for him and the other family.” Father smirked and went back to his work as if nothing happened.
Two weeks later, Jackson was still not at home and Michael began to worry about Jackson because he started to think that Jackson will not come back, he was not worried about him but he was embarrassed how he would look from his parents and friends if he told them that his son moved out, and he was too stubborn to go look for Jackson so Michael did not do anything about it. Michael went back in his room and found a picture, a picture of him and Jackson when Jackson was about 6 years old, in the picture they were both laughing like there was nothing to worry about in the world. He asked himself when was the last time he saw Jackson smile like this, he could not remember and suddenly tears came out of his eyes and started to regret what he has been doing to Jackson, did not care about him, didn’t show that he loved Jackson. Father started to search for Jackson, he called his friend’s house and went around the town looking around for him, but he could never find him.
One day the phone rang,
“Hello? What? No please tell me you are joking,” Michael was shocked and dropped the phone and stood in there and paused for a while.
Michael couldn’t say anything as the person who called was telling him that Jackson got in a very serious car accident and is at the hospital getting surgery as they speak on the phone, the person on the phone told him that the surgery is very difficult and there will be a fat chance that Jackson will survive. Michael asked which hospital and ran into his car forgetting to hang up on the phone and drove to the hospital as quickly as possible.
When Michael got to the hospital he ran to Jackson’s room, he hasn’t ran in really long time since he was always sitting on the chair working on the computer. Michael opened the door and he saw Jackson lying on the bed and doctors surrounding him.
“Did he survive?” Michael asked even though he was puffing from all the running he had to do to find Jackson’s room.
Doctors looked at him and shook their head sadly and told him that they could not do anything because Jackson was very weakened, not by the car accident but the circumstance he was living for the last couple of month, doctors thought that Jackson was not getting food enough and didn’t get enough sleep, they could not tell where he was living for the last couple of month but they told him that Jackson could have been living by himself as a homeless.
Michael started to cry his eyes out when he was listening to the doctors, he felt guilty and embarrassed how he let Jackson walk out of the house in the first place, the doctors started to walk out of the room and one of the doctors told him that they found a picture in his pocket. Michael looked at the picture and the picture was same one that Michael found in his room, Michael went on his knees and cried holding Jackson’s cold hand but bigger than his hand and he started speaking.
“I’m so sorry Jackson for treating you bad for really long time, I realised I need you at home and what I have been doing to you for the last 5 years was cruel and cold hearted, but when I realised that, it was too late, you were out of the house and I didn’t know what to do.” Said Michael crying, he could not continue anymore because he was crying too much but Jackson didn’t move or talk, Michael stayed there for few hours crying to him, once people realise how important some people are to them, they should not wait for the last moment to tell them because it may be too late to tell them.
