HR Management essay on: Culture in Asia
Why is popular culture significant in Asia? For me popular culture is the usage of ideas, thoughts, images, cultures and messages are very significant. Asia has been a diverse and large region. This region has been marked by individuals belonging to various cultures, ethnicity, and religion. I see that there are innumerable mediums of transmission of popular culture and they are namely, movies, music, comics, television, and magazines. I have come to know by research that this culture though was originated in Europe and United States, a major proportion was originated locally (Barker, 2003).When I take a closer look at the operations which imparts the popular culture, I come to know of the fact that it initiates and propagates the mutual learning across different cultural platforms, enhances the trade and distribution of various products, and the governments’ initiatives on various policies. When I think of what it does to the people, I am compelled to comment that it brings people closer by giving them the opportunities to share and learn via the cultural elements and products (Lewis, 2002). I remember studying that India had become home to musicians of the African American jazz in the 1930s and 1940s. Roy Butler was a saxophonist and he had spent more than a decade in India. He travelled from Calcutta to Mussoorie and then relocated to Mumbai and he became one of the prominent members of the orchestra at the Taj Mahal Hotel. His orchestra contained Anglo Indians and Goans. This to me is perfect example of the exchange of pop culture. After Butler returned to United States of America in 1944, his companion Teddy Weatherford who was a jazz pianist who was very famous in Chicago relocated to India and started playing his music in the country and also in several places in South East Asia at various hotels and clubs. This addition of African American music in the Indiana and South East Asian database was a great enhancement in the knowledge pool of the aboriginals of this region and they got to know many things about the culture, tradition, music and their religion (Lewis, 2002).Consequently in the developed parts of Asia, the cultural as well as moral interest in case of the popular culture will focus upon the imports done by Americans. Popular cultural products along with personalities from the East Asian centre would lead to a feature in the majority of newspapers. The trials & tribulations of the pop stars along with a celebrity would make up a part of the daily gossips by the fans in the various different locations. The popular culture has been referred to as a sphere which consists of the various capitalist activities. It refers to a type of an economy which would take into consideration the larger phenomenon which is mostly concrete able. Distribution, promotion as well as marketing have been referred to as the popular cultural products within East Asia & have now become a part of the product producers from different avenues such as directories, financiers, artists, etc. It has been seen that, the Singaporean television companies are building fair co-operation within the joint ventures amongst the production companies (Lewis, 2002). A thick as well as intensive traffic amongst the various locations have led to a translocation within the cultural industry. The boundary crossing for the pop cultural products, artists as well as varied source of consumption for the audiences from the different locations has been rendered to be a cultural phenomenon in its own right which has received high levels of interest. Nevertheless, there is some pioneer work which is coming along in this stream i.e. Popular Culture (Barker, 2003). One of the most notable works in this regard refers to the production, consumption as well as circulation of the popular culture under an “underdeveloped area within the study of globalization”. This work takes into consideration the various industrial strategies which could be adopted by the Japanese culture in order to penetrate within the Asian market. In the year 1990, it was concluded that in case of the Japanese culture – the popular music industry, pan Asian pop idols have been treated as one of the best measures to act successful. In the contrary, the television dramas for the urban young target audience have received high levels of applause throughout the entire region in the second half of 1990 (Barker, 2003).Based upon the cultural studies it has been seen that, positive conception regarding the popular culture could be valued as well as analyzed in the most effective or efficient manner. It has been stated that, Popular culture if political in nature. Popular culture has been constituted with the help of the production of the various production means which are located at the moment of consumption. According to Hall, it has been argued & analyzed that popular culture is an arena which takes into consideration consent as well as resistance while struggling over the various cultural means. Judgments along with popular cultures are majorly concerned with questions not belonging to the two class i.e. cultural or aesthetic but of power & the place of popular culture within a specified social formation (Huat, 2004).Finally, in the end it has been noticed that Japanese audiences welcome have been done with the help of the popular culture products imported from the different parts of Asia. Therefore, it has been noticed that, completely opposite the Taiwan reception of the Japanese dramas which are aired over the television have been done by importing the Asian popular culture which would be based upon the refusal to accept that it shares the similar type of temperament along with the Asian cultures (Barker, 2003).
