SOLUTION
INTRODUCTION
Globalization is a process which starts with the growth of relationships with people of different culture, tradition and nation. It also deals with the increasing distribution of goods in various countries, with the reduction of taxes in export and import. It basically connects different countries with regards to politics, culture and economics. With the onset of Globalization today we can watch a Hollywood film sitting in a small village in India. We flaunt a Versace jeans and a Tommy Hilfiger watch only because of globalization. Thus, I feel that Globalization has much more to do with good things than bad.
CRITIQUE
Since I am in the favor of Globalization, I would start with all the good things it did to us and eventually would shift my focus toward few bad that I am aware of.
The first thing that comes to Alcott’s (2009) mind is the flexibility of communication and transport that globalization brought to us. Today the entire world can communicate with ease through telephone, fax, and internet and even through video conferencing can see each other and connect. A wife sitting in Bolivia can see her husband in bedroom of New York without having to travel there spending hundreds of dollars. A child can talk to her father over phone who is 2000 miles away from her. It used to take seven odd days to reach Mumbai from Islamabad, but now it only takes around few hours to reach there. All because of the improved transport facility which came to us through the process of Globalization. The improved and fast transportation facility helped the people around the globe to move from here and there in search of a new beginning, a job or even a home. And that is how acculturation had taken place. Mingling of different cultures had made the people accustomed with their life styles and even their way of thinking. This helps the native countries to take advantage of their better choice and launch different products. According to Meera, (2009), it also leads to the diffusion of knowledge among people of various nations and cultures. It helps to spread the knowledge in different parts of the world. The invention of automotive farming machine in Southeast Asia helped all the farmers around the world on the field to work better in the agricultural sector. According to Joanna (2008), the growths of various multinational companies and non-governmental sectors have penetrated into the developing countries due to the growth of globalization. With global issues mounting on us and causing various problems, numbers of international companies are also coming in to solve the problem. With the onset of non-governmental companies coming into the picture, it entices people from around the world to focus in one thing. This helps in tow way communication between those people that gives rise to new form of culture and even language. All the native languages are being modified and touches of modernity have given rise to a new kind of language which is easier to speak and even to understand. According to Fiona (2007), the international economies flowing inside the developing countries are increasing employment opportunities in those countries. This is giving rise to better standard of living and hefty amount of disposable income. According to Peter (2004), globalization gives rise to increased creative and competition which leads to innovation. According to Sinchan (2009), most of the developing countries enjoy the benefits of using improved technology without spending any resources on making them. According to Donna (2007), globalization helps in mingling international culture, music, movies and even life styles which changes for the better. But having said so many good things about globalization, there are few drawbacks with brought with them.
According to Barbara (2009), globalization snatches job opportunities from the native people and gives in the hands of someone else of a different country. The concept of outsourcing is actually proving to be detrimental to the developed countries. According to Arthur (2008), the mingling of different cultures and traditions are actually facing the originality of the native culture. Though new trends are being set, still the very individual flavor of one’s own culture is diminishing day by day. There is a greater chance of spreading devastating innocuous diseases with mingling of people from different countries. According to Dorothy (2008), the diseases like Aids and Psoriasis have spread around the world when intermixing of people started taking place. Changing of place and environment might also disturb the native ecosystem. Some scholars are of the opinion that heinous works like making children work and forcing poor people into slavery have risen due to globalization. The unethical practices have surfaced in the business organization due to Globalization. One of the most deadly events that shook the world was the occurrence of 9/11 in New York. It reminded the world that easy movement of goods and people is not all that nice. It can cause a huge damage to the native country. Pollution and dirt in the streets have also mounted due to the dumping of industrial wastes. This too is blamed on Globalization. Children are getting succumb to obesity due to the junk food restaurants like MacDonald’s and KFC. The scholar also says that the religious sentiments of the host countries are being undermined due to the increasing development of these restaurants. With the onset of Globalization, it is seen that the rich people are getting rich due to various multinational companies opening up their branch in the various corners of the globe while people who were poor are still getting poorer. These fancy restaurants are taking away the business of the native restaurants. This is the same in all the sectors. A recent case in India suggests that native retailers did not welcome the Wal-Mart to venture into India.
CONCLUSION
Thus we see that even though many scholars have many negative points about Globalization, still I feel that the points of positivity is much more strong as it is helping the poor countries to get job and become efficient.
