 Gee, J. P. (2014). An Introduction to Discourse Analysis: Theory and Method. New York: Routledge Taylor and Francis Group.

Summary-This book was written by James Paul Gee. Through fourth edition of this book (2014) the author tried to focus on discourse analysis with its definition and its real practical application in communication and the virtual effect to the recipient conveyed through this communication. This discussion is followed by the practical application of discourse analysis. This book also focused on social languages, conversation and intertextuality as the instruments of discourse analysis. Then the outcome is highlighted in perspective of form-function correlations, figured words and situated meanings. Next chapter emphasized on processing and organizing languages. Samples of disclosure analysis cited for three instances. These chapters were concluded with proactive designs.   The author derived different types of languages and its implications as a component of disclosure analysis.

Evaluation- The author had done identification of two types of disclosure analysis- descriptive and critical. Theory and method of disclosure analysis mainly focused on language and its impact on interpersonal communication skills.

Reflection- After reading this book, I came to know that the author depicted the role of language as the tool of disclosure analysis and its different types to understand the nature of disclosure it wanted to transmit to the stakeholders.  This book is very informative related to theory and method of disclosure analysis and the same would be helpful for me to understand the subject for both theoretical and practical purpose.

HARPER, D. J. (1995). Discourse analysis and ‘mental health’. Journal of Mental Health , 4 (4), 347-357.

Summary- The author, David J. Harper had emphasized on analytic work of discourse analysis in perspective of clinical scenario like professional talk and its diagnosis, psychotherapy etc. with further illustration of the utility of a type of discourse analysis within the theoretical framework of social constructionist in contrast to practical political position deconstructionist in nature by taking up a qualitative research methodology through interviews of professionals and user of psychological health service connected with the psychiatric issues and respective diagnosis. (HARPER, 1995)  

Evaluation- This research is based on the question that those specific methods and theories tend towards re-conceptualization of clinical type of problems. The framework of discursive and deconstructive nature is proposed by the researcher as alternative to conventional understanding.  

Reflection- I feel that this research had put light on the role of discourse analysis in clinical activities and this study would help me to understand the role of this tool in medical science derived through qualitative research methodology.

SPONG, S. (2010). Discourse analysis: Rich pickings for counsellors and therapists. Counselling and Psychotherapy Research , 10 (1), 67-74.

Summary- The author of this journal had the objective to highlight the importance of discourse analysis in recent period within the fields of psychotherapy and counseling. This article explains how to understand discourse analysis to identify appropriate approach of counseling research and respective practice. For this article, the author had approached by categorizing recent studies of discourse analysis with varied scopes of researches in this subject related to counseling practice.   This article emphasized on five different range of proposed examination to use language in practiced therapy for analyzing the impact of such counseling on social construction, power and meaning related to offered therapy. This paper highlighted the ability of counseling by emphasizing on the critical analyses of those sessions, different interviews required for research, along with other materials including written texts to ensure right approach for discourse analysis. This paper focused on the way to ensure insight towards paths through which counseling can be used as social practice with further assistance to the counselors to link their work within the wider range of social process and structure. Evaluation-The limitation of studies in this field can be overcome by this research to enhance awareness of specific problem solving through critical discourse analysis.

Reflection- This paper can help me to understand the impact of discourse analysis in counseling with respective theory for the social awareness to ensure better application of this instrument to ensure improved result for stakeholders.

Stead, G. B., & Bakker, T. M. (2010). Self in career theory and counselling: a discourseanalysis perspective. British Journal of Guidance & Counselling , 38 (1), 45-60.

Summary- The authors of this paper, Stead and Bakker are associates of Cleveland State University, Ohio, USA; and University of Pretoria, South Africa respectively. Main objective of this paper is to understand the terminology of SELF to ensure critical reflection on different theoretical viewpoint on self in developing career through counseling. This effort was endorsed by the outlook of Foucauldian discourse analysis to interpret self with connection to its implication on career counseling to develop self career through the mechanism of a complex matrix of discourse analysis of society to identify its impact on the domain of career counseling and development.  (Stead & Bakker, 2010)

Evaluation- this article focused on examining the self in career counseling through Foucauldian discourse analysis related to the terms of existence of self in narration, history and power. Additionally, impact of counseling within the outlook of said discourse analysis is offered.

Reflection- this journal article gave me the understanding about the role of Foucauldian discourse analysis and its impact in counseling to enhance self career with development through its complex application by reading this paper.

Zverina, M., Stam, H. J., & Babins-Wagner, R. (2011). Managing Victim Status in Group Therapy for Men:A Discourse Analysis. Journal of Interpersonal Violence , 26 (14), 2834-2855  

Summary- The authors of this article are associates of Calgary University and Calgary Counseling Center, Canada. The purpose of this paper is to identify and investigate discourse analysis of males who identified themselves as victims of female abuse. The process of this study progressed with counseling through group psychotherapy for affected male abused by their female partners.  The research was done by identifying male abused stakeholders found them as victims.  Through counseling, male and group were identified to structure real victims. This research has done survey of identified affected male and subsequent group from Calgary Counseling Center.  Methodology applied was qualitative approach through interview and subsequent counseling of the group. The research was done to identify the terminologies ‘abuse’ and ‘resistance’ by the samples taking the benchmark as victimized male with physical abuse.  (Zverina et al., 2011)

Evaluation-The outcome highlighted on the observations which might differ from the identified work as prevalent in the therapeutic groups of victimized female. Identification of dichotomy of victim and perpetrator is difficult in discourse analysis through counseling and therapy.

Reflection- This study gave me conceptualization of discourse analysis about affected group by partner abuse with subsequent abuse through counseling and subsequent therapy.
