Writing Assignment help on : The Buddhist Perspective

Buddhism is one of the major religions in the world, and it is widely practiced by many people in several countries. In his teachings, Gautama Buddha provided with Four Noble Truths. According to this ideology, the knowledge and effective practice of the four noble truths led by Buddha would lead an individual to nirvana. This teaching comprises of the truth about suffering, truth about the cause of suffering, truth about the end of suffering and finally truth about the path that leads to the end of suffering. Thus, what he explains here is that there is suffering in life, which has a cause however; this suffering can end by following a certain path (Hanson, R. 1). According to the first truth, life has suffering, which is an indispensable fact. This suffering crosses the conditions of pain, illness and trauma, which includes both the physical and mental forms of suffering. The second noble truth of Buddha comprises the cause of suffering. He points out that the basic cause of suffering is desire, craving and ignorance. Buddha mentions that people suffer due to their endless desires, cravings and ignorance towards the reality of life. Moreover, people become dissatisfied easily and then form desires for another things, resulting in a vicious cycle. Further, Buddha mentions that desires generate out of ignorance because people fail to view the truth about life and thus, forget their main goals by often misleading the righteous path. Ignorance also takes place because of the limited understanding of people. And hence, truth can only be seen by people when they develop their minds, understanding and inculcate wisdom through meditation. The third truth comprises of the truth of end of the suffering (Zen & Buddhism). In this context, Buddha mentions the concept of self, which according to him is not the truth. He mentions that truth and self cannot co-exist with each other thus, where there is self there is not truth and where there is truth, there is no self. This argument points out that self is a destructive concept which inculcates the feelings of jealousy and hatred. According to Buddha, self is an element, which seeks pleasure and desires lust; on the other hand truth is an element that views things in correctly and aims to understand the righteous path. Furthermore, Buddha also mentions that self is an illusion, which results in wrong decisions and feelings within an individual’s life. Moreover, it produces evil thoughts that lead to suffering amongst people. Therefore, individual’s can only understand and attain truth when they view self as an illusion. In this context, righteousness can only be achieved when people freed themselves from egotism and the illusion of self. Henceforth, Buddha arrives at the conclusion that in order to remove suffering, understanding the path of righteousness and achieve truth, it is mandate for the individuals to detach from the notions of self (Jayaram, V.) Therefore, according to the Buddhist perspective, suffering is present in the life of all individuals, which can be controlled by detaching oneself and freeing from the notions of self.
