Experiment No- XXX-102248-2381

Objective: To determine the hand-eye reaction time of the experimenter by reading the left hand and right hand distances.

Apparatus Required: Two rulers, Observation table

Theory: For determining the hand-eye reaction time average distance of the 20 trials for each hand is calculated using the formula:

The hand-eye reaction time for each hand can be calculated using the formula:

Reaction time =

Procedure:

  • First of all rest hand with fingers extended over the edge on thetable.
  • Then put a ruler parallel to the floor in horizontal position over the thumb and forefinger and read the horizontal ruler.
  • After reading adjust thumb and forefinger till the distance between them becomes2cm. Now observer places the other ruler midway between the fingers of the Subject vertically or perpendicular to the horizontal ruler.
  • Now without informing the subject ruler is released. Subject catches the falling ruler by closing his fingers.
  • Then observer observes the falling distance of ruler taking the position of thumb on the ruler as a reference. The observation is recorded and the same procedure is followed 19 more times for both hands respectively.

Data:

Calculation:

The Average reaction times can be determined theoretically using the formula:

0.136277029 =0.14 cm (Rounded Value)

0.170233933= 0.17 cm (Rounded Value)

From the observation tableclass average can be calculated as

=0.167= 0.17 cm (Rounded Value)

0.166 = 0.17 cm (Rounded Value)

Result: From the calculations the results have been obtained are mentioned in the table below:

Precautions:During the experiment cares should be required and the following points include the difficulties and the cares for reducing errors:

  • It should be taken in care that the zero end should be closest to floor as well as to the to the thumb
  • With the motion of ruler hand should not be moved downwards
  • To take more numbers of observations  for precision of results
  • Observations should be taken up to the second decimal place.

Conclusion:From this experiment it has been concluded that for left hand Individual and Class average are similar but for right hand Individual and Class average are different. So during the observations of the experiment of right hand care should be taken.
