Criminal Behaviour
Scenario 1
Name: Student Credentials
Date: 5th July 2020

In this case, the woman clearly is nervous about what the police might find out. From her posture and activities it can be identified clearly that she is quite disturbed by her being in custody for the murder of her boyfriend. Hence, in this case, Reid Technique can be approached in order to extract a confession of what happened from her. Calming her down and asking some indirect questions might help in this case (LAYTON, 2020). Clearly she is afraid of getting in the mess, so she can be comforted into making her believe that she would not be harmed in any way and set free if she helps the law enforcement out. She can be asked if anyone was there at the crime scene. Many such questions can help figure out the truth behind her story and rest blanks can be filled through a thorough investigation.
Positive confrontation is the way to go ahead with the interrogation. Making her believe that some other individual is the suspect can extract information out of her. Minimizing the frequency of the suspect denials can help as well. Apart from these, other steps of interrogation that can be used here include, the reason has already been provided by the suspect, hence, questions around it can be asked as in who did the boyfriend cheat with or did the suspect find him cheating with another individual at the crime scene and as such. Sincerity regarding the suspect being receptive needs to be established so that the suspect trusts the officers. Alternative questions can be asked revolving around the confession and once the confession is recorded, the admission of guilt needs to be repeated in order to ensure everything and the same is at last documented.
Scenario 2
Name: Student Credentials
Date: 5th July 2020

Such individuals as in this scenario are the ones who know about what is going to happen next as they have already experience the process before. In this case the suspect has a clear idea regarding what is going to happen to him next and hence, things actually need to spice up a little as this suspect is not going to confess easily. Here the methods like torture, good cop/ bad cop or even verbal and non –verbal cues can work (LAYTON, How Police Interrogation Works, 2020).
Before everything, it can be made clear to the suspect that if he assists with the law enforcement, he would be helped and he should confess. This can be done to provide the suspect a chance to confess on his own, but, if it does not work, then definitely making false statements and stating false facts can help the law enforcement to convince the suspect into confession on his own. In case all of these tactics do not work, then more hard core solutions to the same can be used in order to obtain a confession. The above stated methods can most probable help the law enforcement out with obtaining the confession.
Definitely in both scenarios, before the police proceeds with the interrogation, Miranda warning has to be given.
