Essay writing Assignment help on : Reality TV
Reality TV is a concept which is popular today because it is meant to entertain the others without creating much of the drama and contains the characters that are real and entertaining. The reality television usually has a theme which circumscribes the tasks of the people who are a part of the reality TV shows. The base of the reality TV is that they are completely unscripted and they are not melodramatic, the reactions which the audience can find at the television screen are usually real and original. The main purpose behind a reality TV is to create a space for the people who are not known and thus making them know the world and the world to know them for their specifications and personal characteristics. The temptation which is set to draw the attention of these reality people or the original characters is the prize money which is set to be provided to them after the show and the popularity which is obvious and is given to them as they remain in the show and get the attention of the people. It is a new style of television which is a post modern decision taken up by the media and the broadcast so as to entertain the people by showing them the significance of the real lives and that how the lives are lived in reality (Von Schilling James, 1953). It is so unlike the scripted shows which are aired on television which has an interplay of the set motions and the decided dialogues which are far unintelligent than the real life situations and thus only answer the fantastical expectations of the audience. Even after having this non-dramatic point and being realistic in picture yet it could be something which can go harsh on the thought process of the audience and the expectations which the people have from the shows that are being telecast publically. So, the shows cannot be favourable as they are also responsible for creating a trend in the public which could be much casual and also is responsible to create and impression among the youth (Himmelstein Hal, 1994).
One can take instances of many shows that came like the ‘Jersey shore’ at MTV, the show was revolving around the lives of the eight housemates and that how they have been living in the country. The housemates belonged to a different culture and were from different backgrounds and the lifestyles and so living among the cameras 24*7 and then being scrutinised from all the possible angles and also the usage of certain words which are stereotypical in nature like the term ‘Guido/Guidette’. This is how the show became interesting for the audience to see because they could relate to the reality and the real usage of the language but at the same time it was criticised because of the typical language it used as Guidette was the slang that was used for the Italian-American stereotypes .On the other hand it was one of the most watched shoes and also was praised by the modern ideological perspective which appreciated the addition of new lexicon and the introduction of new phrases in the popular culture of America. ‘The biggest Looser’ is also an important show if seen in the history of the reality television, it is a show as again was released in America and the theme was later adapted by many countries around the world. The show focused on the participants who were fat and obese and the goal was that the contestants to lose weight so as to gain the cash price as set by the production of the show (NBC Universal, 2012). It is always not important that the shows stand for a core theme and wish to entertain and that is what a reality show is, where everything is unpredictable ((Jankowski Gene & Fuchs David, 1995). It means that there can be no learning but at the same time there would be sharing of the knowledge which the other has about the world and that is what a reality show aims at that is at the learning from experiences and the situations. Another example can be taken from that of the Big Brother, in which it was seen that the participants in the show usually engaged in the abusive use of the language at the back of the people and also many sexual assaults were also seen like the popular episode between Ashley and John (Steur Faye & Hustedt, Jason 2002). Somewhere the reality TV has been successful to predict the reality of the times by showing how the morality and the traditional mores have been lost from the modern society. The reality TV has been helpful in explicitly bringing out the intricate mindsets and the clashing ideas among the members of the society.
