In Chapter 16 of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, it is found that for countries like France and Italy pleasure and happiness have a direct relation with food choices (Pollan, 2007, p. 287). It is further noticed that despite consuming food that is not healthy they are capable of maintaining good health outcomes because they enjoy the food. Whereas, in the American Paradox the people are not happy with what they are eating which is causing a negative health outcome even though the food they are consuming is healthy.
In Chapter 20 of The Perfect Meal pleasure and happiness in food comes when the meal is prepared by the consumer from scratch (Pollan, 2007, p. 391). The knowledge of ingredients needed in the meal and the knowledge of the cultural origin of the food helps an individual to get connected with the food which offers better happiness and pleasure. Hence, it can be stated that to food offers happiness and pleasure when the consumer is aware of the local landscape, culture and ingredients.
