OB Assignment report writing help online: Performance enhancement & Narcissism
Abstract
Organizational behaviour is one of the most important aspects that are being followed by each and everyone within the organization to make an effective team work and performance enhancement within the organization. In terms of managing people it is very much important to manage own self. If the person is not able to manage own self then it would not be possible to manage others. Until and unless the person will not understand the ways and techniques of self management, there is no way to manage others. Here the main issue arises which is called Narcissism; it is a kind of psychological disorder which is very common among the Y generation people.
Narcissism is one of the most evolving issues among the Y generation people. They think they are the most intelligent, knowledgeable, self esteemed and effective in all terms. They are full of over confidence, which is never fruitful for themselves and for others too. In this research report, these aspects of Narcissism and its effect on others and the organizational performance will be discussed. How Narcissism is correlated with the academic exploitation? What are the advantages and disadvantages of Narcissism and how it is going to affect the upcoming generation? All these things will be discussed and discovered based on various perspectives and theories.
To make a strong viewpoint, empirical study will be done and both of these aspects of Y generation people will be covered in the study which will support our thoughts and viewpoints over the impact of narcissism to the people.
Is it effective for a leader to follow narcissism and whether it would be acceptable by the management and employees within the organization or not? These are the most common assumptions which come in our mind while talking about narcissism. While going through this research report we would be able to make our viewpoint more clear and effective.
Introduction
Narcissism is one of the most common psychological characteristic among the Y generation people, who have born between time periods of 1980-2000 approximately (Macky, Gardner & Forsyth, 2008). Narcissism is not a very much ethical and perfect approach to manage the people and self management. To manage people, it is very necessary to first manage own self. If anybody is failing in managing himself or herself then it is sure that the person won’t be able to manage others.
For their self interest they can exploit others, this is really anti-social and unethical. These all aspects are increasing day by day due to the increasing psychological disorder of narcissism among young managers who all are belonging to Y generation group.
According to various studies done by students, professional and executives, it is found that 80% desire money making and only 34% want to become famous in their life (Macky, Gardner & Forsyth, 2008). Both of these aspects clearly show that Y generation people are highly self esteemed. They are very much concerned and focused towards earning name, fame and money at most. These aspects show their self interest and its impact on their behaviour towards others.
If they will be carrying the same attitude and behaviour then it will be a huge problem and key issue for the organizations to manage this kind of attitude and its impact on others.
Narcissism is not hereditary but its increased impact in real life is making the upcoming generation used to of this behaviours. They are bound to follow it due to the earlier culture followed by their seniors or colleagues. While following narcissism they even forget about the social concern and its impact on others which leads in academic exploitation. They are giving a bad and anti social lesson to others that is not acceptable and it should not be carry forwarded. The narcissists people are exploiting others concern for their self interest and self esteem (Menon & Sharland, 2011). Which is unethical but due to their indulgence in these kinds of antisocial activities they have forgotten each and everything which are so called ethics, beliefs, cultures, values, honesty and behaviour.
The research will be based on the empirical study and questionnaire methods. We will be asking few questions that will lead towards the answering of various aspects of narcissism and its relationship with the academic exploitation. Based on the response, we will be able to find out the correlation between the narcissism and academic exploitation.
Sample: 65 people from XYZ Inc.
Hypothesis: H0: Highly correlation between narcissism and academic exploitation
H1: No correlation between narcissism and academic exploitation
Sampling method: For the research purpose, random sampling technique is considered to avoid any kind of discrepancy in the report and the response of people.
We are assuming two hypotheses; one is in acceptance of the positive correlation between narcissism and academic exploitation, and other is in rejection of the correlation. If the one gets accepted then other one will be rejected automatically. Based on the response of the sample, we will be able to find the correlation between both the concepts.
Results
As per the results of responses of the people who all are taken under consideration while research, the most common perspective goes around the acceptance of narcissism and its correlation with the academic exploitation. Around 81% of them have accepted that the Y generation is highly motivated towards money and fame that leads to the unethical consideration and use of their position at work place which means they have accepted the negative impact of narcissism on others even on the peer groups?
Around 15% people are against this aspect of narcissism and their responses say that they believe that narcissism is nowhere exploiting the others personal life or professional life and it has no much impact on others.
The remaining 4% are neutral over this aspect of narcissism and its relationship with the academic exploitation.
The results describe the acceptance of people over the negative impact of narcissism on the people and its correlation with the academic exploitation. The Y generation people are less responsive over the negative impact of narcissism on others. They are just extremely focused towards their own objective and they can do anything to fulfil their own requirements, needs and desires.
Discussion
If we look over the increasing issues of narcissism and its negative impact on the common people then the scenario will be clearer that narcissism is clearly a kind of psychological disorder, the Y generation people are the most infected with this disorder. They need to think about the world apart from them. They are having high self esteem, high inspiration, high level of knowledge, these aspects are good but they know how to use it effectively and efficiently rather than making unwanted use and un-necessarily showing off their strength and capacity (Menon & Sharland, 2011). This is really harmful for the long run of their career. The exploitation of others is not an effective and ethical approach to achieve the objective of own self. But to make a better assessment of all the aspects considering both positive and negative impact on others, a step should be taken to minimize the negativity and gain the growth and objective (Hill & Roberts, 2012). This will be an ethical and acceptable approach to fulfil the need and requirement of own self. Obviously it is a time taking method/approach but this will not lead to any antisocial or unethical aspects of the method which we are following to achieve the goal of our life.
But the Y generation people are not ready to accept this at all. They are still going with the same aspects of narcissism and they are busy with their own ways, methodology, stream to approach their own interest and their own way to manage the people. They are making others understand willingly or unwillingly that they are the best and nobody can deny this fact/myth. If anybody is denying their strength and intelligence then the exploitation starts with this deny of acceptance that the narcissist people are the best out of all.
Undoubtedly, the Y generation people have knowledge but only having knowledge is not sufficient, the effective use of the knowledge is necessary to understand all the facts and understanding of outcomes of their steps to the outer world. These all are necessary aspects which is missing in the Y generation people, and I don’t know why they are not understanding this fact, or avoiding this fact due to their unconsciousness over the negative impact on others.
To know the things is good but to know how to handle the things is the best. If the things or knowledge is not used properly then it may have negative impact on own self and other as well.
Conclusion
The whole study moves around the Y generation people and their most common psychological disorder that is Narcissism and its impact on others (Macky, Gardner & Forsyth, 2008). The most unfavourable impact is exploitation of others due to fulfilment of self need and self interest of the Y generation people. They think they are the superior and nobody can deny their superiority, if anybody is denying or questioning to their superiority then it leads to the exploitation.
The Y generation people should take effective steps towards the avoidance of narcissism which is present among them. It is of no worth and even it is demolishing the whole generation’s impact on the others. If they have the knowledge and superiority then it should be shown in their work and competitiveness rather than showing it in their attitude and self interest. If the things are not done effectively and managed properly then there is no need of having those particular things with us. The same is happening with the Y generation people, who are covered with the smoke of narcissism. They are deviating from their actual path and it is not a good sign for the future aspects and the dimensions of the sustainability.
The research results show their interest and the kinds of impact which they are making on others. It is very shameful for the Y generation people that they are moving in a wrong direction and they know its impact to the society and the economy but they are still avoiding this concern. It is their self interest and self esteem which is making them enforced to understand the negative impact of narcissism on the society. They are insulating a wrong consumption and assumption of unethical behaviour at work place by following narcissism.
They need to come out of this psychological disorder and understand the reality. They are responsible for adopting this misconception of narcissism and they will have to initiate by themselves to uproot this psychological disorder present within them.
