The distribution file system has been regarded as one of the novel concepts which would take in to consideration the various ways through which the existing or the potential clients could be benefitted.
- Introduction
The report has been framed in order to highlight the main problem or issue i.e. the drawback of using mobile computing. The existing system i.e. mobile computing has been rendered as a technology which has led to an increase in the speed & internet access all across the globe. Some of the drawbacks which have been defined in the report refer to weak connectivity which leads to the disruption within the speed as well as the quality of the connection. The second drawback refers to wireless connectivity along with ubiquitous computing.
2.1 Problem StatementThe major problem which has been indentified within the report refers to major issues which have been attached along with mobile computing. The three main weaknesses attached with the same refer to weak connectivity, wireless connectivity & ubiquitous computing.
2.2 Importance of the report
The importance could be seen in the second half of the report. The distributed file system would beneficial to the users in many ways. The new model or a framework which has been opted in order to replace the existing system is the distributed file system (D’Angelo, Ferretti, Ghini & Panzieri, 2011). The new model or a framework selected would be quite helpful to focus upon the designing of a particular system. The distribution file system has been regarded as one of the novel concepts which would take in to consideration the various ways through which the existing or the potential clients could be benefitted. The distribution system would help in order to frame a system which would help in order to support the clients using the mobile devices (Aaron, Gartrel, Ray & Han, 2009).After selecting the new model or a framework i.e. the distribution file system, the next step would be to evaluate the system or the solution with the existing solution i.e. mobile computing. On the basis of the following aspects, the new system could be evaluated. The first aspect would be economics (Alan, Kendall & Mary, 2006). This aspect would be regarded quite helpful in order to provide a brief evaluation of the same. With the applicability of the new model, low prices along with various cost effective ways would arise which help in order to rise the computing would power of the same. The second aspect would refer to internal distribution. This aspect would evaluate the applicability of the new model would be in regards to the inherent distribution of the various applications (Aaron, Gartrel, Ray & Han, 2009). The new framework would help in order to opt for various applications which might help in the up gradation of the technology so used. The third aspect refers to the up gradation in the speed (Alan, Kendall & Mary, 2006). The distributed system would have a better computing power as compared to the main frame model. The reliability factor attached with distributed file system is quite high as compared to the other systems. In case of the distributed file system, the growth would be seen but in small portions. The entire system would be expanded with the implementation of the same (Alan, Kendall & Mary, 2006). Modular expandability could be seen with the applications designed with distributed file system. The last aspect which could be taken into consideration would refer to the driving force i.e. the availability of the PC’s along with the collaboration of the people & sharing of the information (Aaron, Gartrel, Ray & Han, 2009).
Existing SolutionThe existing system or the framework which has been used refers to mobile computing technology. It has been noticed that, in the previous years the mobile phones have been referred to as one f the most bulky things to carry. These days the electronic devices are not only used in order to stay in touch with friends & family but is also used to have access of the internet, send as well as receive various multimedia messages as well as have high data services all across the globe (Aaron, Gartrel, Ray & Han, 2009).
The two devices which are in limelight these days refer to tablet & smart phones. Currently, I-Pad & Smart phones have been regarded as the mobile phones which are new in trend as well as at par with the various mobile phones available in the market (Alan, Kendall & Mary, 2006). The smart phone shave been regarded as a technology which is stated between the laptops & the mobile phones. The smart phones either have a touch screen or could be used with a stylus (Aaron, Gartrel, Ray & Han, 2009).
3.1 Drawbacks of the existing solution
Some of the drawbacks which have been attached with the existing solution i.e. mobile computing have been discussed in this section of the report. There are many ways with which the drawbacks could be either removed or diminished. Some of the drawbacks have been discussed as follows:
Þ Weak connectivity: With the existing solution i.e. mobile computing the mobile devices has had weaker connectivity. This leads to high levels of network problems which creates major problem with the speed, quality of performance, etc.
Þ Wireless connectivity: The mobile computing leads to problem with the connection. I9n order to deal with such type of an issue either the internet protocol or the cellular protocol. The IP would help in order to provide non mobile hosts.
Þ Ubiquitous computing: The last drawback attached to this type of computing refers to ubiquitous computing. In such type of computing the PC’s would be present everywhere & the geographical areas would be able to be unattended (D’Angelo, Ferretti, Ghini & Panzieri, 2011).
- New Framework
The new model or a framework which has been opted in order to replace the existing system is the distributed file system. The new model or a framework selected would be quite helpful to focus upon the designing of a particular system (Shanmugam, 2011). The distribution file system has been regarded as one of the novel concepts which would take in to consideration the various ways through which the existing or the potential clients could be benefitted. The distribution system would help in order to frame a system which would help in order to support the clients using the mobile devices (D’Angelo, Ferretti, Ghini & Panzieri, 2011).
It has been noticed that, the portable devices have been increasing day by day & has helped in order to replace the inferior technology used within the mobile devices. Hence, one of the major questions which have been arrived in the minds f the customer refers to the design of the technology which would help in order to support as well as provide an added advantage to the same (Shanmugam, 2011).
This technology is quite different as compared to the design which has been framed for the non portable devices. With the adoption of the same, the bandwidth of the network has reduced drastically. This is due to the fact that, the interconnection between the wireless connections has been used as a multi-accessed network. The current bandwidth of the wireless connection has been noted to be 9600 bits/speed to 10 megabits/second as compared to 10 – 622 megabits (D’Angelo, Ferretti, Ghini & Panzieri, 2011).
With the adoption of this technology, the mobility of the client has been introduced which has led to different transparency problems. The client would be able to move in the freest manner without providing any type of configuration for the information within the particular system (KumKum, 2010). The current systems majorly ask for an active participation which would lead to a reduced performance with the same type of a system. With the adoption of this new framework, temporary disconnections in case of the mobile devices might occur. The major reason for the disconnection of the mobile devices would be due to the fact that, the present state of the wireless technology is not up to the mark. The users who have been using the mobile technology would like to disconnect the device temporarily as it reduces the cost which is attached with the wireless connections (Hagit & Welch, 2004). Hence, the client associated with this technology would be quite helpful to manage as well as maintain the performance of the mobile devices. Temporarily disconnections would lead to one of the major constraints which would lead to high levels of difficulties to achieve viability & the performance of the same. The level of availability would also be reduced due to disruptions within the same (KumKum, 2010).
With the implementation of the distributed file system, the users would be able to read & share the files which would lead in the reduction of the dependence on the storage devices. The new framework would also lead to more safety & move all the files into a safe store. This would help the clients to write share the files (Eagle & Pentland, 2005). The two main aspects which have been explained in this report refer to the efficient variable consistency & the intelligent file pre-fetching. The main focus while implementing the distribution file system would refer to the use of many applications which are small in size & the sharing of files would be done in the best of the manner without taking much of a time (Hagit & Welch, 2004).
A fair relationship must be drawn between the availability as well as the consistency of the data which would be used in order to frame a structured file system. The file system would be made in such a manner which could be used in any of the portable devices. The data used in the file system should be consistent which would minimize the failure of the server’s as well different network problems (Eagle & Pentland, 2005).The mobility of the client would lead to combine the likelihood of the temporarily disentanglement. It would lead to the binding of the users along with the servers which would create high levels of consistency amongst the same (KumKum, 2010).
- Evaluation of the solution:
After selecting the new model or a framework i.e. the distribution file system, the next step would be to evaluate the system or the solution with the existing solution i.e. mobile computing. On the basis of the following aspects, the new system could be evaluated. They are as under:
Þ Economics: The first aspect which would be quite helpful in order to provide a brief evaluation of the same refers to the Economic effect. In case of the new framework i.e. the distributed file system could be seen as a collection of microprocessors offered as a handsome price which would help in order (Thomas, 2010) to increase the performance of the same. With the applicability of the new model, low prices along with various cost effective ways would arise which help in order to rise the computing would power of the same (Shanmugam, 2011).
Þ Internal Distribution: The second aspect to evaluate the applicability of the new model would be in regards to the inherent distribution of the various applications. The new framework would help in order to opt for various applications which might help in the up gradation of the technology so used (Thomas, 2010).
Þ Speed: The distributed system would have a better computing power as compared to the main frame model. For example, 10,000 chips would be running at 50 MIPS. With the application of the same, the performance for the system might be enhanced with the load of the distribution (Eagle & Pentland, 2005).
Þ Reliability factor: The reliability factor attached with distributed file system is quite high as compared to the other systems. It must be noted that, if one machine crashes the entire system would be irrupted. With the use of the new system, this factor would be diminished.
Þ Growth: In case of the distributed file system, the growth would be seen but in small portions. The entire system would be expanded with the implementation of the same. Modular expandability could be seen with the applications designed with distributed file system (Hagit & Welch, 2004).
Þ Origination: The last aspect which could be taken into consideration would refer to the driving force i.e. the availability of the PC’s along with the collaboration of the people & sharing of the information (Eagle & Pentland, 2005).
Some of the goals which must be kept in mind in case of the distributed file system would be as under. They are as follows:
Þ Sharing as well as connection of the resources:Þ High levels of transparency level: The second goal which must be kept in mind in case of the distributed file system would be to have high levels of transparency levels. With the implementation of the same, the users might be able to locate & distribute different types of information (Hagit & Welch, 2004). The users would not be able to hide anything which they want to. With the implementation of the same, the users would not be able to perform the following:
i. They would be able to differentiate amongst a slow as well as a failing computer
ii. The users would not able to be sure that whether the server used to perform the operation was running good just before the crash of the same.
With the help of full transparency, the effectiveness in terms of cost as well as the expansion of the system would be done.
i. Exposure of the entire distributed system would be done with the help of full transparency
ii. To maintain the web caches which would help in order to maintain a master copy
Þ Ingenuousness/ Openness: Ingenuousness or openness within the file distributed system would help in order to interact as well as share various types of information without taking in to consideration the environment of the same (Alan, Kendall & Mary, 2006). The following things should be kept in mind by the client. They are as under:
i. The entire system should be easily interoperated
ii. The system should be designed in such a manner which would help in order to support the different applications
iii. Portability of the systems should also be kept in mind (Alan, Kendall & Mary, 2006)
iv. The system should be framed in such a manner which would help in order to define the various types of interfaces.
In order to achieve openness, the file distributed system should be made totally independent keeping in mind the heterogeneity of the working environment or the way with which the entire system is to be used. The following aspects should be kept in mind. They are as under:
Þ Use of proper hardware’s must be done. This would help in the portability as well as use of the various applications at one source.
Þ A well structured platform must be built which would help in order to implement the application in the best possible manner (Alan, Kendall & Mary, 2006).
Þ Use of the proper as well as relevant languages must be made. This would help in order to perform all the functions in the best of the manner.
Þ Scalability: The last goal which would be achieved by implementing the new framework i.e. the distributed file system would be refer to scalability. The three main components which should be kept in mind would be as follows:
i. Scalability in terms of size i.e. the number of users using it
ii. Scalability in terms of geography i.e. the highest levels of distance amongst the nodes
iii. Scalability in terms of administration i.e. the number of domains available
Some of the techniques which could be used in order to practice scalability would be as follows:
Þ Distribution: Detachment of data as well as computation of the machines should be kept in mind.
i. Decentralization of the information system
ii. Decentralization of the naming service
iii. Java Applets
Þ Replication: Different copies should be made which would help in order to support the different machines. The following things should be kept in mind, such as:
i. Replicated data bases
ii. Replication of the file servers which help in order to pin point fault.
iii. Imitated websites
iv. Memory systems on large scale basis
Þ Caching: With the help of caching, the users would be able to have an access over the various local copies which might be made available. The following things should be kept in mind such as:
i. Web caches i.e. in terms of web servers, etc
ii. File caching i.e. in terms of client as well as servers
Apart from the various benefits which might be achieved by the implementation the file distributed system, the various challenges & pitfalls attached to it have been discussed below.
Pitfalls attached to the file distribution system are:
Þ Reliability in terms of networks
Þ There is only one administrator attached to it.
Þ Secure vas well as sound network
Þ The topology in case of this system does not change.
Þ The transport cost attached with this type of distributed system is zero.
Þ The bandwidth attached with this system is infinite.
Þ The network attached to this system is homogeneous in nature.
The various challenges which are involved with the file distribution system have been listed as under:
Þ Fault tolerance i.e. to build a reliable system from the various unreliable sources. The file distributed system could be partly or fully failed. The distribution system has been rendered to as one of the systems which might fail any now & then (Aaron, Gartrell, Ray, & Han, 2009). Hence, in order to prevent form the same a secure communication shall be practiced between the same. This would help in order to maintain public networks as well as build a design which is friendly when used in any of the devices (KumKum, 2010).
Þ Caching, Replication as well as naming have helped in order to place & compute the data so that effective sharing of the information could be taken place (Eagle & Pentland, 2005).
Þ Proper coordination along with the sharing of the information might also lead to one of the main challenges. This reflects that what should the main components do & when should this be practiced (Aaron, Gartrell, Ray, & Han, 2009).
ConclusionHence, it could be concluded that “The Distribution Filed System” could be referred to as one of the most applicable technology which would help in order to replace the inferior technologies. The new model would also help in order to overcome the various drawbacks associated with mobile computing.
The various benefits could be retained from the same. Some of the benefits could be discussed such as with the applicability of the new model, low prices along with various cost effective ways would arise which help in order to rise the computing would power of the same.
