In the past MIS was termed as IRS, that is, information resource management. The data of the organization used to be managed by the IRS and along with that, it also managed other work like processing word and electronic mails. At that of time, DSS, Decision Support System, was another form of MIS but that is not the case anymore. DSS was used for taking important managerial decisions but today, the important decisions in the organization are taken with the help of MIS only rather than any other separate system. There is a significant progress in the world of computers and with the improvement in technology MIS is improving at a faster rate.
