In an organization all the employees are expected to work in a collaborative manner so that proper results are achieved and goals of the organization are given due importance. The employee is placed in teams so that they can work with other employees and pursue a common goal. As per Edgar Schein, organizational culture depends largely on the employees and the teams which are formed. The team environment is quite different from individual work as employees would work together and even learn from each other developing skills in the process (Hogan and Coote 2014).  It is for such reasons that formation of teams can be regarded as a functional strategy as it allows the management to have a better control over the operations and ensure that there is accountability in the operations of the business. The employees working in a team environment learn aspects of cooperation and collaboration which can help the teams perform without limits.  Team environment also teaches individuals aspects of leadership and helps them grow as a leader. In terms of psychological factors, team environment also motivates individual to perform better as they are working with other employees who are also performing. New recruits are able to learn things from seniors and quickly develop the same skills so that they can also achieve the same level of efficiency (Cole and Martin 2018). In addition to this, working in a team environment develops a sense of responsibility in the employees towards the team and provides job satisfaction. These aspects are important for long term growth of the employee and further for the retention of the employee. Therefore, it can be said that team formation is for both functional and psychological reasons and it has vital application in day to day business environment.
