BeowulfThere are three literary devices which have been used in Beowulf. The literary devices are as under alliteration, caesura & assonance. Each & every device within the device has been contributing in a manner which helps the reader to interpret the novel.
One of the example of alliteration within the novel is “Marshes & made his home in hell”. The alliteration states that the place where Gendrel resides is a hellish place. The way with which Gendrel’s home has been described in the novel creates a negative impression in the minds if the reader. This states that, the house was a terrible place.
The example of assonance is “By God, punished forever for the crime”. This literary device tells the listener that, Grendel is being punished. This device states why Gendrel has been showing off his anger over the entire city. This device shows that, Gendrel is a cruel individual & he is an evil personality.The example of caesura within the novel i.e. Beowulf is “When darkness had dropped”. This literary device states that, it just became night. This show cases the arrival of Gendrel on stage. This literary device shows the motion within the passage along with the arrival of Gendrel.The social context of Beowulf can be described as a poem which reveals social, kinship along with the various behavioral aspects which are quite common with the Germanic people. This poem takes into account values all above the virtues. This poem also highlights the destruction of the entire Geatish by the hands of Swedes.
