Question 1:

With the introduction of lot many topics through the course, the area of disability really attracted me. The area in the topic of disability that was more interesting was the people with developmental or the intellectual disabilities.

A:  The Website URL which was followed for the explanation of the concept of intellectual disabilities among people:

https://aaidd.org/news-policy/policy/position-statements/human-and-civil-rights

The website illustrates the equality for the people with intellectual disabilities in the current scenario and the rights of the people that have been long ignored in the society throughout the past decades. The civil and the human rights of the entire individual in the society should be respected. The individuals with intellectual disability also deserve protection, honor and respect and thus their rights must be central towards the entire advocacy (Human and Civil Rights 2018). The website describes how the civil and the human rights of the people suffering from developmental or intellectual disabilities have been unjustifiably limited and denied on the basis of the assumption of the lack of the humanity of the intellectually disabled people in the society.

B:

Information in relation to the person with disabilities- The chosen website is published by American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The data or the information of the website included the inalienable rights of each and every human being including the people with development disorders (Stein 2017).  Some of these rights included right towards dignity, health, self determination, equivalent opportunity and other similar rights recognized by the international declarations and the law. It has often been noticed that the people who are the sufferer of intellectual and developmental disabilities faces different types of unique challenges like social exclusion, cultural and social attitudes, underpayment for services and the labor, denial of the measures of economic self sufficiency, social prejudice and force impoverishment with high exposure towards the risk of violations and marginalization in the society.
Question 2:

According to Chapter 6 of No Pity, self advocacy can be defined as the movements of the new rights of the people with specific retardation. It can be illustrated as the parallel cry of self determination by some other group of people who are disabled in nature who rebel against the long deprivation of choices, underestimation and forced leading of lesser lives (Shapiro 1994). It is a major part of the overall rights related to disability movement and a altogether separate version which tends to target on the issues that impacts on the people suffering from mental retardation (Werner and Shulman 2015). Though the freedom from any sort of marginalization and discrimination is one of the basic inalienable right of every human being that are accepted as a major part of the basic fundamental law of the land, initiating advancement of the civil and the human rights of individual suffering from intellectual and developmental disabilities are still a big challenge. This is because most of the time, the government and the local governmental agencies remain unaware of the ignorance and the discrimination the people with intellectual disabilities are facing in their day to day lives.

The concept of self advocacy is one of the most essential ways by which people with intellectual disabilities can own their voice of themselves. Jackie Downer encapsulated all the potential of the concept of self advocacy in the context of intellectual disabilities. According to her words, emphasis has been given towards the importance of having a voice of own for the people suffering from developmental and intellectual disabilities. It is the fundamental right of the intellectually disabled people to have a voice of own for exploring, explaining and asserting one self (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine 2016). Self advocacy is an important factor that should be embraced by each of the intellectually disabled individual since it is a way to speak out to the society about the ability to communicate (Anderson and Bigby 2017). It serves as a major way to acknowledge to the world that these people can also express themselves, think for themselves and are capable of doing their works by own.
