1. Introduction
After Graduating from University, I & my batch mates will be searching jobs on the basis of our qualifications. The Jobs related to Human Resource domain will require candidates to have thorough knowledge about HR subjects. I must have expertise on soft & hard HR aspects to be a Human Resource Manager of a reputed company. Therefore for this purpose I need to have the required skills to bridge the gaps. After gaining such skills it will also create lot of opportunities for me in HR field.
In order to find out types of training that I should undertake, three aspects should be analyzed with the need assessment process. First of all I need to do my personal analysis. Second I need to find out required skills and knowledge such as (communication Coordination & Team Spirit, using HR Software’s) for being Human Resource manager of a reputed organization. Third process is to identify tools & techniques which will be required to provide training & development for achieving such skills by me. These skills which I possess right now can be compared with required skills to identify the gaps so that more focus for training can be given to bridge those gaps (Delahaye, 2005).
It can be achieve by me with active learning process. There are seven principles of learning such as active learning, repeated practice, meaningful material, multi sense learning, feedback, reward, primacy, and regency. I must assure that whatever training related to Hr will be provided to me, I must cover all the seven principles of learning process. The training program should be designed according to my requirements which will help me to get job in HR field. To be successful in this job, First of all I must analyze the job and its requirements so that comparison can be made according my current skills which I have right now. The gaps that will be analyzed by me should be minimized with training process to meet requirements. The type of job I will prefer is to be HR Manager of a reputed company.
2. Needs Assessment
In need Assessment first stage is to conduct my personal analysis according this report. The personal skills will be related with soft skills such as excellent communication, networking, time management and etc. The second analysis related to an organization where the job description will spell out required skills, duties, and responsibilities that HR managers should perform. It will communicate requirements of job to me. For being a HR manager such skills and abilities are required. They are listed below.
- Candidates should have Post Graduate Diploma in HR with first class degree
- Excellent communication and networking skills is required.
- Candidates should have expertise on Hr related activities such as recruitment, selection, training and development, performance management and full & final settlement.
- Knowledge about HR software’s will be preferred as an advantage.
Form the above listed requirements I can match my current skills with the required skills so that gaps can be identified. I can also highlight those areas where more focus should be given for the development process. The skill gaps that I possess can be filled by me by attending the training sessions for those skills (Noe, 2000).
3. My Current Skills and Abilities
Currently I am studying at first year of Bachelors in Business management (HR) and will be completing bachelor’s degree after three years. I would like to pursue post Graduate Diploma in Management (HR) for being placed as Human Resource Manager in a reputed company.
I am right now participating in role plays, group discussion, and hr club based activities. These sessions are conducted by our universities everyday so that it can help me to reinforce theories which I am learning at my classroom. The session is held for 1 hour and the topics are explained in detailed. I am participating in such activities repeatedly so that I get involved in learning it by adding meaning to it. These are most useful methods which will develop skills in me such as communication, use of technology and hr software’s. It will provide multiple benefits to my career in future. The feedback is being given by trainer after sessions are being completed. I also get feedback after submitting the assignments, giving tests and exams. I feel that I am progressing day by day. At the end of first year I was awarded first prize for standing first in the entire batch at University.
I want to be a successful HR manager then I need to properly manage the time for my studies and for my HR based activities. I am able to manage it and whatever is being delegated to me I complete it properly. This shows that in future I can turn around time easily at companies. Secondly, I am also taking on job training for HR by working in a company as trainee hr to gain experience about Hr related work. This shows that in future I will be fulfilling the job description requirements. This will help me to connect with the theories that I am learning at my classroom. The feedback is given to me by the manager of the company that I am doing well as trainee hr. The teacher of my university also congratulates me for securing first position at the classroom. Therefore this process helps me to use all seven principles of learning. Though I am technically lacking in using the HR software’s but I am trying my best to learn it with dedication. Therefore I need to concentrate and practice the software’s online on frequent basis (Grad careers, 2009).
4. Task analysis (finding the skills gap)
The task analysis will help me to focus on areas where I am lacking right now. It can be done by attending training and development sessions. I can compare my existing skills with the required skills of Job description. It will help me to analyze gaps. I lack in using of HR Software’s therefore this shows that, I must focus more on practicing and learning it.
The requirements of Job description are as follows.
- Candidates should have Post Graduate Diploma in HR with first class degree.

Form this list it was being determined that I can have a post graduate diploma with first class degree in coming years. The marks received in first year shows that it can be achieved in future. The gaps found are being listed after comparing it with my current skills. The development is required in three aspects.
- My written communication was good but I lacked in oral part.
- There was problem in team coordination and networking process.
- I lacked in using of HR software’s.
5. Objectives
The training and development programs are based on certain objectives which are being achieved after completion of those programs. I required training and development in three aspects which will help me achieving the objectives (Stone, 2005).
The reason I want to improve these aspects because I want to be placed in a reputed organization. I can have multiple options in the field of Human Resource. This process will improve the chance of being selected in interviews and employer’s can offer me better packages. The gaps found in me in terms of communication process can be improved by participating in group discussion, giving presentations on several topics. I can increase networking by working in teams and participating in HR related conferences. I can get hands on expertise for HR Software’s by attending computer and IT classes at my university. These types of training programs are linked with learning process which incorporates seven principles that helps me enhance my skills and knowledge (Delahaye, 2005). For this process I am reading newspaper on daily basis to improve my fluency, started to practice hr software’s at my home.
6. Training to increase Employability
Attending all training sessions will increase my chance of getting employed in reputed Multinational companies who have a good working culture. To work effectively in an organization as Human Resource Manager, I need to maintain good employment relations with everyone. Effective training will be required in following areas.
Ability to communicate appropriately
I need to improve oral communication because it will be reflect by behavior and attitude towards others. It will help me to develop better relationships within and outside the organization. To improve this skill I am reading newspaper on daily basis, giving mock interviews, presentations, and participating in group discussions.
- 1. Team Coordination and Networking
I need to participate in conferences; seminars, Hr clubs which will increase team spirit and improve networking also. Thus as HR manager I need to have networking with people so that I can carry out the recruitment and selection process easily.
- 2. Using of HR Software’s
I am right now practicing and getting knowledge regarding how to use HR Software’s because it will help me to maintain employee’s data base and hr related activities in small span of time. For this, I am also taking training as a HR trainee in a company and attending IT and software classes organized by my university.
7. Effective Training (The principles of Learning)
The first training process is helpful to improve my oral communication which is being improved by participating in role plays, group discussion in form of active learning process. It also uses multi sense learning. The newspaper reading & presentations helps me to reinforce in a repeated form. This process is incorporated with meaningful material. I also use handouts of communication process & tongue Twisters which is helping me in primacy & regency. The feedback is given by judge, trainer and by teacher and at end of sessions. Therefore it is an effective way to improve my oral communication skill.
The second training process is related with coordination, Networking and team spirit. It is being enhanced because I am a member of HR club. I am participating in several activities which is helping me to learn by multiple ways such as by observing others. The games that are repeatedly organized by clubs help me to reinforce. The feedback comes when I receive awards and certificates from clubs in form of rewards.
The third training process is helpful for me to learn the HR software’s. The interaction with my trainers will help in multiple learning processes. I am practicing it repeatedly on daily basis which will help me to reinforce it (Truelove, S. 1995). The feedback is being given to me by my trainer when I get results of online tests being given by me. The grades being given in each of the exam modules provides me sense of being rewarded.
8. Conclusion
It is found by assessing my current skills, and comparing these to the list of a task analysis determined the areas requiring further development are; Oral Communication, Coordination, Team Spirit and Networking, and understanding of HR Software’s.
The training programs that are being used to develop such skills are, On Job training for HR Software’s presentations, role plays, group discussion, member of HR Club, attending University classes of IT. Each of these programs allows me to effectively develop these skills by incorporating all or most of seven learning principles in each of these training exercises.
