Activity 1
1) The mission of Caterpillar is to continuously work towards enabling economic growth through sources like infrastructure and energy development in order to provide solutions to protect people and preserve the planet. Caterpillar is into providing sustainable products, various services and solutions like reducing emissions and services like remanufacturing which act as a source for preserving the planet.2) As sustainability is a critical part of Caterpillar’s business their culture is very much into concentrating on developing the sustainability in all their units and all their employees at work. Sustainability focuses on the employee’s ability to understand by developing employee opinion surveys which can measure their awareness and ability to understand and sustainability. Caterpillar also concentrates on its motive to constantly focus in maintaining transparent culture with the Corporate, believing in disclosure policies and engagement.
3) Caterpillar has been building on its strength with its employees since 2001 and they believe in up skilling their employees and Customers with some value oriented training like Operator training, training related to safety methods to be followed. In the school of Operator training the Operators are trained to run their machines safely and also to move the maximum material in a limited period of time. Certain engineering courses also include Track type tractors and Wheel loaders. Caterpillar runs school of safety which focuses on safety and sustainability. The school of service is run to ensure the up time and productivity increase over time while reducing costs consistently.
4) The success of Caterpillar’s business depends upon the quality of work, sustainability in which people’s basic requirements are met which would enable economic growth through various engineering developments like infrastructure and energy development (Caterpillar 2012).
Activity 2
Need Analysis1) The Business which I have chosen is Education and Training. This kind of training includes various topics like knowledge about the proper subject chosen, proper and efficient curriculum to impart training, tools and methods of training design, implementation techniques, teaching and training various audience groups, methods of measuring training effectiveness and tools for measuring training effectiveness. The areas which needed training intervention are training design and implementation, effective training methodologies and measurement tools.
2) Detailed description of training needs and methods, detailed description of the subjects involved in the process, description of various ideologies which could be involved in the subject which might need training intervention.
3) The most important aspect of education and training is to have the right kind of knowledge to understand and to impart the subject to various groups. The skill set requirement for education and training would be right kind of attitude to learn and understand the mindset of the trainees, possess proper communication skills in order to impart the right subject with suitable references, possess the right kind of energy and enthusiasm to deal with various groups of people.
4) The Organizations can use O net to develop their own training department by taking the ideologies around each of the subject which might require training intervention within their department. There could be chances where training intervention might not seem necessary but by looking at the detailed description of the tasks each of the department has the Organization might look into developing and introducing such trainings to their teams as well
Activity 3
Career Assessments1) My top RAISEC scores are 11, 7 and 6 which stand for S, I and E. All the scores are of medium difference between them except the last score which is low.
2) My profile describes my work related interests mainly which are into writing, reading and preparing content. Some of the values which I found very interesting was helping the disabled children learn a language organize a trip for them. The other topics which I found were very uninteresting for me where I cannot show case my talent or they were jobs which did not require much energy but would still continue without them.
3) There were a lot of jobs which were interesting like writing, training, content, imparting, assessing. These are the jobs which require consistent up skilling learning and imparting in the training field.
4) My work values were very distinct. I have a distinctive mindset when it comes to my style of work and work values. My work values which I really value are to give my best in whatever I do or take up. I expect my work provides me good amount of opportunity to up skill with good amount of knowledge which would help me look at other departmental tasks within my organization. The work value which really helped me achieve greater heights in life was to take up anything new in the work place in order to ensure proper functioning and timely completion of work. My scores in terms of work importance were good and high.
5) My profile describes my work related values efficiently as I am in the training profession and it needs a lot to be in this work place. It requires a lot of observation, skill set requirement, timely up skilling of any skill set, interacting with various groups of people to impart the right kind of knowledge to the Trainees.
6) There are occupations which require the same kind of mindset and values like the ones I possess. Training and development, any Organizational work places for that matter anyone who see or need a growth for themselves in their work place are all those areas or opportunities for someone to look for such careers.
7) Jobs like Training, engineering, discovering, analysing were the ones which were there in both the sets.
8) There were not many options left out or there were not any field which was left out in both the sets (O Net Resource Center 2012).
Activity 4
E Learning
1) The positive aspects of the learning are it has given a detailed description of the subjects which would be focussed on with an explanation under each of them. The aspect which I felt could improve was when the topic was listed that performance management does not really happen in an Organization, I think the aspects for its opportunity should also be listed out.2) Realistic topics were selected under all the subjects which make it more interesting however developing the right kind of module like classroom training even if it is e learning would be advantageous. E Learning definitely has an edge on the other kinds of training as the trainee gets a good amount of time to study and to reflect on the training material with the real time scenarios loaded in the software.
3) People with good language skills and good technical knowledge are suitable for E Learning.
4) I would be interested in E Learning for the reason being it allows me to look at the material or the slide for a good amount of time which increases my area to learn. I would opt for E Learning programs offered by my Company after looking at any need to make any changes to the subject (Skills Soft 2012).
