GOALS    
Goal 1:  Leadership Skills Development of Leadership Skills: I believe that leadership skills are required not just individually but for a group assignment everyone should know how to lead his/her team in successful manner. Thus leadership skills will help me in setting the directions for the whole team. I will be able to learn how to lead and live and predict what is lying ahead. It will also help me in visualising what would be the whole group’s achievement. Moreover these skills will inspire as well as encourage us (Mills, 2005) The greatest lesson which I learned  is that leadership entails:

  • Creating a vision for the task to be accomplished
  • Making a strong commitment towards the mission and the group I need to lead.
  • Assumption of loss and failure risks.

Developing leadership skills will help me in enhancing Problem Solving and Decision quality (Orr and Sack, n.d.).

Goal 2: Networking Skills Creating Effective Relationship building:  Developing Networking skills is not about making sales pitches when you meet people. I would like to know about the techniques which I can use for creating strong networks and how they will help me in developing strong relationships (Wolfe, 2012). I was really surprised to know that good relationships are simply not just ‘work’ and genuine results cannot be simply forced while meeting people. Too much pushing in relationship can result in ‘network abuse’. So with networking skills is learned:

  • How to avoid network abuse.
  •  Developing an effective game plan for networking
  •  How to make networking practical through: Potential contacts identification,  Using Follow-up Tactics
  • Networking requires Patience as well as time (Nierenberg, 2007)
Goal3: Time Management Skills Creating and Following Work Schedule everyday to finish 3 assignments: However I am able to manage my time in effective manner and complete all the tasks on time but carrying out three assignments simultaneously requires effectual time management skills. I need to learn about setting priorities and meeting deadlines (Pillai, 2011). I noticed that efficient time management can be done by creating and implementing the work schedules which helps in prioritising in order to focus on the major issues and thus prompting the best results from the task (Forsyth, 2010). I realised that creating work schedules and following them not only helped me in prioritising my work relived me of stress and strain. The two most important impediments  to  successful completion of job are  wasted time and procrastination  which can be avoided by:

  • Planning mine workday
  •  Using ‘spare’ time (Time Management at Work, 2005)
Goal 4:  Communication Skills Developing effective Communication techniques to be a good communicating manager: I need to learn effective and strong communication skills so that I can communicate regularly, timely and efficiently with my group members or team in order to enhance the performance of my group and organisation as well (Barrett, 2006). I realised that in order to be an effective communicating leader with my group I need to develop core communication because the communication strategy needs to be incorporated at the core level. I need to follow a strategic approach to be the master of leadership communication. I should be able to analyse the group members who are the audience in every situation and should be able to develop a communication strategy which helps me in accomplishing their communication objectives at the same time. I should be able to  structure and write simple as well as complex correspondence in effective manner along with the documents, emails,  memos , reports and proposals (Gary, 2002)
