The four models, which help in understand of intercultural communication, are Hofstede, House, Hall and Huntington. Hofstede is the collective program, which helps in creating a difference between one category of people and the other. This theory makes use of five parameters, which are power relationships, uncertainty avoidance, individualism and collectivism, masculinity and feminity, long term v/s short term orientations. Another discussed theory is that of the House which is larger than that of Hofstede as it is based on more studies and includes broader disciplines. Nine culture dimensions have been identified in this approach. Hall’s context model highlights that communication and culture is not only related with word but includes something more than that. The context may vary from situation to the situation and from culture to culture. There are many exceptions to this theory and it has extremely limited use. Intercultural communication aims at solving problems but may not be able to do so in every case. These theories have different results in a different situation. Thus, it is clear that the basic purpose is to explain the concept of intercultural communication and various theories related to it.
