Active listening refers to a form of communication approach which requires the listener to, interpret, understand and evaluate the context he listens. Active listening is a structured way of hearing & answering others. The major feature of this type of technique is to be focused & pay attention to what the speaker says (Robertson, 2005).Active listening helps in improving personal relationships by reducing conflicts, fostering understanding, and strengthening cooperation. By practicing this technique one can improve upon its productivity, and ability to persuade, influence.
2. Fear:
Fear refers to a tortures emotion occurred by a perceived threat. Fear is the mechanism to notice danger. Fear is one of the major elements in communication. In order to overcome the fear the individuals are required to rehearse their subject matter & be confident.
3. Automatic Talking:
Automatic talking refers to a technique where in most of the people talk without even listening to the other person. Such type of communication technique should not be followed as there would not be an effective communication. This type of communication leads to a barrier in the communication process.
4. Topic statement:The topic statement refers to the main sentence of a paragraph. It describes the content as well as the direction where the paragraph wishes to lead to. It details about the main idea of the paragraph (Mana, 2011).

Defensive Listening is opposite to active listening. It refers to a technique where the listener is not actively listening to whatever the speaker says. It acts as a barrier in the active listening process. The listener is not bothered about what the speaker in tends to communicate to the other person. Such type of technique should not be practiced (Robertson, 2005).
6. Rehearse:
Rehearse refers to a preparatory phase before the main course of action. Rehearsal plays an effective role in communication. It helps an individual to give its best on the actual day of performance. Rehearsing time and again would give an individual a grip over the subject.7. Elevator Speech:
Elevator Speech refers to a quick summary of a product, service or an organization. It is approximately ranges between 30 seconds to 2 minutes. It refers to a brief description about anything. It can be either oral, written or in video format (Hahn & Gerald, 1989).
The elevator speech is very important & should be as crisp as possible in order to grab the attention of all the people. It should be well structured, applicable to as many situations as possible.

Ans2. Johari window is a psychological tool which is used to better understand the people & interpersonal relationships and communication. It is primarily used in self-help groups and corporate.
Johari window helps in improving self-awareness, and mutual understanding between individuals within a group. The Johari window consists of 4 windows, and each window depicts the feelings an individual thinks about the other person (Luft & Ingham, 1955).The Johari window expresses the skills, views, intentions, attitudes, motivation, etc about a person in a group, from four different perspectives. The first quadrant of the Johari window talks about the attitude, behavior of an individual which is known by the individual. In the first quadrant the individual is at it’s most productive as it is an open area where all the qualities are known to one and another (Luft & Ingham, 1955). The second quadrant talks about all those views, attitude, behavior, which is not known by the individual itself but is known to the other party. Individuals should try to open up this window as it would be very helpful for them. The third window interprets all those hidden qualities which are known by the individuals but not by others. It is also known as the “Secret Window” which the individual does not want to share with the outside world. The last window interprets the unknown area i.e. all the behavior, attitude, feelings which is not known either by himself or by other individuals (Luft & Ingham, 1955).

Ans3. The three functions of non verbal communication are as under:1. Complementing Verbal Messages: The complementing function of this type of communication includes nonverbal signs such as facial expression, tone of voice, gestures (Robertson, 2005).
2. Substitution for Verbal Messages: The non verbal communication substitutes the verbal communication. Sometimes, in certain situations the verbal communication doesn’t turn out to be a successful mode of communication therefore, in such cases the non verbal communication comes into picture
3. Regulating the verbal communication: The non verbal communication helps in regulating & substituting wherever the non verbal communication takes place. It serves to coordinate the verbal communication amongst two people (Robertson, 2005).

Ans4. “Message is in the Person” means that the individual who wants to communicate has the message stored in his/her mind.
