Allowing a concealed handgun in public is a major law that affects the whole society. Few people always remain in favor of this law whereas many opponents of the same are also there who think that carrying a gun by citizens is likely to increase crime rates.

Being a local representative of a state that has “shall-issue” law, I would like to change the law as in my opinion allowing handgun can be a reason for many issues including untended gun injuries as well as intentional gun crimes. To share the related data this is to state that according to the National Bureau of Economic Research, from 1977 to 2010, an increase of 2% has been reported in murder crimes. In addition to this, the rate of other crimes such as robbery, rape, auto theft also been increased by 9% (ProCon.org, 2019). In this way, it is clear that permitting concealed handguns increases crimes.

Further, carrying such handguns may enhance the risk of confrontation turning and escalating lethal. Here it is important to state that background and requirements check under such laws do not stop dangerous people from acquiring weapons. When criminals are aware of the fact, that victims may also carry a weapon they are even more likely to carry a dangerous weapon.

Since I believe that public safety should be left to the police officers and not on the public therefore “shall-issue” laws must be changed and abolished.
