SOLUTION

I completely agree to the topic. Continuous improvement of communication technologies has transformed the world into ‘global village’. Using the recent developments of communication technology it takes some microseconds to connect two most remote places on the earth. These changes in the communication technologies have both positive and negative effects. This essay will be addressing negative effects of communication technology on three basic areas. It’s the human society and the culture which is adversely affected by the continuous improvements in communication technology. Lucy (2011) says that communication among humans happens following both verbal and non-verbal cues. When two people communicate face to face both verbal and non-verbal cues play their parts in the process of the communicating the message intended. When one has to speak of a sad incident to another the grimness in the facial expression says a lot about the feeling of the former. These facial expressions can be considered only when there is a face to face interaction. With advent of mobile phones, emails et al the chances the face to face interaction between people has gone down abhorrently. Most of communications happen using these technologies. Thus emotions instead of getting displayed in the canvas on ones’ face are replaced by emoticons of text messages and emails.

In this new era of improved communication technologies a new language has been discovered by the users of these technologies, to name it’s the language of the internet or SMS. According to Diyar, (2011), he says that this language consists of just abbreviations, viz., tc-take care, lol– laugh out loud etc. One who won’t know this language can even be termed handicapped in this virtual world by the netizen.

Speed of communication using these technologies is another drawback; with this speed of communication we are losing our ability to think before we speak. At times we give in to the temptation of replying an email soon after receiving one. In the process we end up making umpteen errors in the message intended to be delivered. According to Lauren, (2011) he says that a faster world based on technology is also reducing the amount of time we ought to be with ourselves and/or our loved ones. These technologies up gradation distracts people from their work, As for example, you are in the middle of an important discussion when you find yourself distracted by the continuous flickering of the tiny red light at the side of your Blackberry informing you about the mail that it has received.  With all of these cons, the communication technology is downgrading the human approach to relationship. Pros and cons being the flip sides of the same coin, thus it is the discretion of the user how much intrusion of technologies he/she would allow. Instead of getting overwhelmed by the facilities of such technologies one should use them smartly as however improved the technology be still it is human being who will use it and hence its the duty of the person using it to manage its usage.
