While I was volunteering for at this organization, I was stationed as an assistant to the human resource manager. My work at the organization entailed developing reports, analyzing data with respect to performance of the employees. In addition, I was tasked with the responsibility of analyzing data and interpreting for purposes of making informed decision regarding the performance of the organization.

Advising skills

I possess skills in providing reliable advice to clients. These skills are significant in assisting me to secure the position that am applying for. I acquired these skills working at my uncle’s store. I used to make observation while assisting the clients to identify the products that they needed. As a result, I developed the skill of being a good listener in order to identify the things that people required.

In doing so, I was able to provide good advice depending on the needs and interest of different people who shopped at the store. Furthermore, based on the insight that I gained from interacting with clients at the store, I was able to provide my uncle with significant information that assisted him to modify the policies which assisted him to offer better services to the customers. In addition, my skills in providing advice assisted me to understand more about people as well as enabled me to enhance my communication skills and boost my confidence.

Language skills

Through attending various seminars, I have listened to various people speak about various issues. These seminars have assisted me to improve my language skills as I have learned how to communicate with different people. One of the key strategies that I use in communication is being an active listener.

When I listen to people, I gain a lot about them which makes me to respond in a manner that is expected thus articulating issues efficiently. Since I am required to work with other employees, my language skills will play a significant role in assisting me to meet the needs of the employees to improve my performance in the organization.

Intercultural sensitivity

The ability to work with a diverse team is crucial in an organization that has numerous people (Milligan 2018). With this background, I am in a capacity to work with people and groups from various regions which make me a good fit for the organization. Organization require people who can be able to work with a diverse group and be able to accomplish tasks (Noe et al 2017). Also, being sensitive to different cultures, I have realized that the significance of learning other people in order to be able to attend to their needs efficiently.

Proactive

I have learnt to be proactive over the years which is attributed to my curiosity. I am always keen to find out what can happen in the event of taking a particular situation as opposed to another. This skill has enabled me to be proactive and it is a skill set required among human resource specialist (Parry and Battista 2019). This skill will enable me identify issues related to my job description so that I can be able to find solution easily.

December 2019January 2020Talent ManagementTalent acquisition is a huge aspect in human resource management and I need to improve on this area (Lawler and Boudreau 2015). This is due to the increasing number of applicants who are qualified in this field (Marketscreener.com 2019). I need to improve this area because hiring and recruiting new employees is an expensive task for many organizations. In order for me to develop this area, I intend to attend a talent acquisition seminar that will be held towards the end of the year. I expect that I will learn a lot about the modern trends in talent acquisition. The guests in the seminar will be human resource managers from big corporations around the world. They will be speaking on the key attributes that the market is targeting when conducting hiring and recruitment exercises.
20192022Artificial intelligence and Machine learningArtificial intelligence and machine learning is still a grey area although it plays a significant role in assisting human resource activities and operations (Tacho and Singh 2018). Also, this area plays a significant role in enabling the employees to have better job satisfaction as well as managing employee’s grievances (Kowalski and Loretto 2017). I will need to improve this area in order to have the right qualification for human resource positions in the future. I intend to develop this area through job experience as an intern before I graduate so that I can be prepared for the job market. I also plan to attend various seminars that are held yearly concerning this topic. Besides, I will seek assistance to be mentored in this field by supervisors when I will be taking my internship. The providers of this knowledge will include my instructor who is knowledgeable in the field of human resource management. I also expect the University to offer us practical lessons in term of projects in order to enhance my learning in this area. Furthermore, I will more about this during my internship in various institutions before is graduate.
20192020Employee ExperienceThe digital world has managed to shift the concentration from engagement of employees to employee’s experiences within an organization (De Oliveira 2016). Among the core systems that are being affected include company culture, engagement and performance management (Rao 2019). Therefore, I need to develop knowledge in this area in order to seek the employee’s journey to optimize their performance, enhance skill in technology such as employee wellness apps and modern communication tools and development of employee’s organizational experience (Guest 2017). I will gain this knowledge through job experience as an intern before I graduate. I also attend various seminars that discuss the issue as well as seek coaching and mentorship working as an intern. This skills are going to be provided through workplace education, university and mentorship by my instructor.
20192022Human resource AnalyticsThere is surge of people in the analytics field (Mura et al 2017. Many organizations are moving from back office to data warehouses where they can gain insight through data analytics. As a result, companies are purchasing analytics solutions such as Oracle and Workday (Bamber, Bartram and Stanton 2017). I need to develop this area if I am going to be marketable in the job market. I intend to acquire this skill from job experience as an intern before I graduate in my studies. I will also attend various seminars related to significance of analytics for human resource managers. These lessons will be provided through workplace educator and guest speakers of the seminars that I will attend before I graduate.
