ARTICLE REVIEW – “Mighty Men, great myths”
The article “Mighty Men, great myths” was published in the Sydney Morning Herald dated 25th April 2005 by Tony Stephens. The author Tony Stephens was born in the year 1939 after the Second World War. His father died in the Second World War which was fought against the Japanese. Tony Stephens has written various books published on the various topics of politics, ideology as well as debates on certain raw topics such as the history of war. Tony Stephens in majority of its books highlights stories related to old Anzacs. The main purpose of the article is to highlight the fact that the lost battle has various harsh truths attached to it. This article also keeps in the mind the fact i.e. why Anzac matter (Alexander, 2006).The article starts with fact that Gallipoli took us in the previous year say about 90 years from now. This article portrays a picture which would take us long back where Turkey & Peninsula would match up the various services provided in Australia. The article also states that, the story of Gallipoli will not haze away just the way soldiers have (Alexander, 2006). The myth attached to Anzac has been quite crucial which lead to high levels of resilience as well as distortions. All the questions have been drilled, thrilled as well as attacked. The questions are still hovering in everybody’s heart & soul (Benedict, 2001). The entire event had a very strong beginning. Ellis & Barlett, two of the most renowned British Journalists have talked about the event which took place on 25th April, 1915 (Stephens, 2005). It has been stated in the article that, Australians have escalated the entire event & the soldiers who were a part of this event have been raised upon the entire cliff. One of the leading Australian poets Masefield mentioned that, “the people involved in the entire event were one of the finest people with one of the finest bodies who have been serving their country with one of their best ability” (Stephens, 2005). The poet states that these were the people with great souls who were ready to serve for their nation. The poet also signifies them by saying that, they seemed to be kings of the old poems & jog one’s memory to the line written by Shakespeare i.e. “lure like eagles”.Sir Hamilton states that – according to God we would not be able to see such beautiful souls who have contributed themselves to the entire country as well as sort the panorama. It was worthwhile to see them fight for the love they had for the country. The love has grown from South Cross to Old Country just for the sake of liberty (Stephens, 2005). One of the correspondents from the battle ground states that, the entire story has risen from the various mists which have led to the creation of men with a beautiful heart & soul all together. These men or fighters have had high levels of possessiveness in their minds relating to the country which would stay forever. Hence, the entire Anzac story has been shifted from heroic towards a heartbreak which would lead to the destroying of the necessary or the crucial truths (Benedict, 2001). The Anzac day started to fell from the year 1960b during the period of Vietnam warriors. It was seen that many of the Australians were in a mood to fight a war against them. The Anzac day has been restarted or renewed outstandingly. The respondent from the battle ground states that, it was horrifying to see young lives giving a tribute for their homeland (Kalman, 2000)S. Anzac has been referred to as one of the substitutes which would be acted as a source for revival from the Australian culture which might be regarded as one of the major complexities in the years to come (Benedict, 2001). Misrepresentation in case of the Anzac story started with the beginning of day 1 i.e. 25th April, 1915. The Australians did not realize that, Indians as well as French were present when they were on the verge to invade Turkey. One of the main reasons for the defeat of Gallipoli was that majority of the Australians have not yet accepted them whole heartedly (Kalman, 2000). It has been seen that, most of the events or occasions celebrated in Australia were major failures. The two main explorers Burke & Wills, stated that Gallipoli won the Australia II. The Turkish conflicted as well as forced the two main big empires i.e. Fresh & British to relinquish. One fine day, the commander belonging to Turkey was counter attacked followed by a fatally wounded commander form the home country i.e. Australia. Hamilton took various steps which took different troops to dig in (Kalman, 2000). The Anzacs served up with high levels of courage, humor, liberty & mateship. One of the major myths which have been highlighted in this article is that, Australia was born in Gallipoli. Australia has been fighting over the Europeans (Benedict, 2001).To conclude, it could be said that the article portrays a picture which would take us long back where Turkey & Peninsula would match up the various services provided in Australia. The article also states that, the story of Gallipoli will not haze away just the way soldiers have (Alexander, 2006). The myth attached to Anzac has been quite crucial which lead to high levels of resilience as well as distortions. All the questions have been drilled, thrilled as well as attacked. the entire Anzac story has been shifted from heroic towards a heartbreak which would lead to the destroying of the necessary or the crucial truths (Benedict, 2001).
