The mission of Amazon is “we strive to offer our customers the lowest possible price, the best available selection and utmost convenience” (Ir.aboutamazon.com, 2019). The mission statement of the company is very simple and straight forward by putting emphasis on effective customer service and managing a customer oriented business procedure.  In fact, it is obvious for Amazon to put extra effort on its customers because the company is service oriented and retaining customers is considered to be one of the major aspect that Amazon follows. For maximising its customers also the company pledges to offer better pricing and experience to the customers with various range of products and convenient service.

Vision of the company

The vision of Amazon is “to be Earth’s most customer centric company where customers can find and discover anything they might want to buy online” (Ir.aboutamazon.com, 2019). From this sharp and transparent vision statement of Amazon, it can be derived that global reach, customer centric approach and wider selection of products are the main elements that bring an effective measure into the business objectives of Amazon. According to Tou et al. (2019) the global reach vision of the company is set out through Amazon’s international leadership and e-commerce market. This global expansion also reveals the market penetration and marketing strategy of Amazon in terms of generic strategy and intensive growth strategy.

History of the company

Amazon was founded in the year of 1994 under the leadership of Jeff Bezos. The company went public in 1997 and began selling music CDs and videos in 1998 (aboutamazon.com, 2019). By this time Amazon started expanding its business in UK and Germany by acquiring online sellers of books. Gradually the supply and delivery network of Amazon became highly extensive that made the company from a simple supplier to one of the giant suppliers across the world. The year 2002 was a great story for the organisation where Amazon Corporation started Amazon Web Services. Currently, Amazon purchases the Whole Food Market, a supermarket chain of USA (Tou et al., 2019).

Current event

Since 2010, Amazon Corporation has been trying to transform its business orientation to a great extent. As a result of that a drone program is initiating as a part of the automation in Amazon delivery service. As it is the motive of the company to foster better and convenient services to the customers therefore the new drone programme is definitely rendered a strategic advantage for the organisation in the global competitive market. The project is in pipeline and expected to deliver packages up to five pounds in less than 30 minutes (Wilke, 2019). It will definitely create a strategic advantage for Amazon to ensure high consumer services.

Based on the discussion, it can be argued that technology is definitely considered to be one of the major aspects for the business orientation of Amazon. As a result of that the mission and vision of the company to expand the market and ensure quality deliver services to the customers can be met effectively.
