I have always wanted to become a healthcare leader. Being a healthcare leader is a challenging and a satisfying profession. I have always wanted to assist and serve ill patients. The passion for nursing and the ability to face challenges with effective management urged me to become a health care nurse leader.Health is a big business which requires efficient and proper management for long-term development and growth (Ropp, A 2006, p. 1200) of health care. Nurses need to have skills to become health care leaders through education and experience. The characteristic of being a healthcare leader includes having sense of integrity, flexibility, trust, cooperation and resilience. Thus, undertaking Transformational style of leadership would help me in setting proper direction, influencing and managing changes in the staff. Effective leadership is deliverance of high quality health-care services and being systematic through delegation and empowerment. Systematic functioning at all nursing levels requires effective planning, controlling and organizing various health care activities. Being directly involved in patient care requires influencing other people in the health care team through powerful and excellent leadership skills. Clinicians also need to have enough understanding and knowledge to make good clinical decisions in the implementation of patient-centered care (Cooper 2003,p. 35) and ownership for retaining stress, advancement in career and satisfaction in job and stress reduction. To bring about patient-centered approach, effective collaboration between healthcare professional, providing adequate health information, good communication skills, sound knowledge in finance and economics will help in influencing the clients and patients .Moreover, adhering to clinical governance will bring about continuous improvements in quality, thus creating an environment for effective clinical excellence.
