There are a number of firms who are ready to employ various employees in Singapore. As the profile can be seen their requirements are highly dependent on individual professions that requires specialisations. this s also one of the major reasons why they also tend to hire directly from colleges, train them and make the employees adopt to a culture which is of high importance to them. According to Hudson (2012) following are some of the facts and figures with respect to the trends that are followed in Singapore. These are also some of the major facts and figures that will help any graduate in making a decision on choosing the right stream.
Accounting and Finance
As far as the profession of accounting and finance is concerned, business acumen is highly in demand. Top salaries are allocated for talents in relation to tax. There is an increase in the trend of contract employment and simultaneously an increasing demand for various analysts. Senior roles are not much sought after in this case. The current market situations have reverted to a cautious trend where in the managers who are hiring now are only willing to pay and amount of 15% in comparison to the 25% they were ready to pay the first half of 2011.

There is an increased implementation of risk management and this increases the investment rate in compliant and relevant talent by them, there is an increase in the regulations of financial services and the demand for relevant talents are also higher. Highest value is imparted to relationship managers and the private bankers. There is also a high requirement for the project and change managers, from 2011, most of the the banks have increased the base salary and reduced variable components in their rewards packages.

The demand is extremely high for compensation and benefits professionals in human resources. There are many organisational development roles that to be fulfilled as there is an increase in implementation of strategic human resource management in various companies. The professionals looking for this field are to concentrate on business partnering skills. The demands for generalists are easing does were a specialist roles are growing high on the demand. The payments in the case of most human resource professionals are a fixed base salary with an addition of a bonus that is linked with the ‘managed by objective’ (MBO) performance.
IT and T
Organisations are now trying to increase their base. Sales professional are now hired by the hunters. There is a high level of importance for candidates who are with hybrid skills. The combination of in-depth technical knowledge and strong customer facing abilities are extremely rare and is sought out by these companies. There is a high level of importance that is concerned with the business process re-engineering process, enterprise Resource planning (ERP) and SAP.

There is a requirement for good communication skills in the case of the lawyers. There is also a high demand for the lawyers who are into private practice. But this can only be done after earning sufficient amount of experience. There is now only a narrow gap difference between the private practice and the in house legal teams. The salaries are also hiking big time because there are talent shortages.
Manufacturing, Industrial and Energy
Most of the growth in Singapore is instilled due to the growth difference in the case of the oil, gas and its derivatives. This makes the demand higher for the traditional and energy talents. There is also a continuous change in the case of the manufacturing landscape. There are also organisations who invest in the in-house business improvement capabilities. This means that specialised and SMART talent are highly sought after in their case.

There is a high demand for customer relationship management and the technological interference in the case of customer relationship management is also deriving new roles. There is also a high demand for the holistic communication skills and the various roles are extremely global in nature. Market salaries are not considered standard in the scenario and the range of remuneration is extremely high in this sector. This is one of the major reasons why professional advises are sought after for fixing a permanent salary in the case of this sector.
Choosing the Stream- A manager
A stream should be chosen on the base of priorities and on the basis on the inherent talent and interest in the subject. This will bring in dedication to the work that is undertaken and it will meet the various standards that are set by the organisations. This is one of the reasons why I prefer to take up management sector. One of the most prominent advantage f becoming a manager is that there is a requirement for a manager everywhere irrespective of the nature of the company. Also, the past decade of work has proved that I have the calibre to work hard as a manager and reach the target that is set up for me. Following are some of the major tasks that are to be completed when it comes to the office manager and these are the roles that have to be fulfilled on requirements. Managers will be responsible for monitoring and assigning the various responsibilities including the administrative, clerical and secretarial responsibilities among the various staff members. Different resources are to be allocated according to the skills possessed by the staff to ensure task performance and maximum efficiency. The work that is allotted to them should be coordinated well. The staff performance have to be monitored an evaluated well. Recruiting staffs would also be dependent on the office manager as it is a senior role. This is also dependent on the size of the firm. It is the duty of the manager to organise orientation and to train the various staff in the office. There is a high requirement to coach and discipline the staff according to their nature (best job interview, 2012).
One should also establish various procedures for record keeping. The record keeping should be idle. There should be high level of security and confidentiality to the work that is assigned. Manager is also responsible for implementing and deciding on various procedures. There is also a requirement of monitoring, maintaining, and reviewing and approving office supplies inventory along with giving approval for the supply acquisitions. The safety and the security of the working environment is also entirely the responsibility of the manager. An office manager is also to handle various enquiries from the customers. A manager is also to control and maintain the internal staff relations (best job interview, 2012).
One of the major reasons why I chose myself for this job is because of the the business degree I am taking from here which is highly relevant. I have sufficient administrative practice and knowledge about technology. Managers should in short be jack of all trades with basic knowledge about all the processes that are undertaken various departments in the office (best job interview, 2012).
Key competencies required for the Job
Here is a list of the main competencies that are required for managers. These are also the major competencies that are required for performance of assigned duties and the talents that I am to nurture in me
Psychometric tests
On the basis of psychometric tests, it was revealed that I am a trouble shooter. It means that I am good at interpersonal skills and organising. I also have the tenacity to work according to a structured plan and focus on the project at hand to meet strict deadlines. I am good with delegation skills and have the ability to select the right person to a part of the team. This ensures that the project is subdivided in a manner that effective team work is put in to ensure that the right person gets the right job which in turn leads to efficient time bound, structured project completion. In addition to this I am also good with the problem identification and resolution methodology. This is very important when it comes to larger scale as things would always according pre planned schedule. This requires improvisations and problem solving to ensure adherence to mandated deadlines.
Career planning
I am looking forward to changing my career planning’s would like to start my career as an administrative assistant to understand the roles and responsibilities in managing operations in a large a complex organisation. Once I understand all the requirements, I would like to move to an operational assistant profile which would enable me to gain hands on experience, different operating procedures, under the mentorship of a senior operations administrator.
Once I have achieved prophecy in completing the assigned task I would like to go in for managerial qualification along with a certification in cost and accounting which would enable me to understand and manage complex projects along with preparing detailed cost analysis, project scheduling and project completion frame works. This would also give me an opportunity to have a background glimpse of the real time project coordination. Then I would like to move up as a senior office administrator or office manager where in I would be able to implement all the leanings in management and cost analysis along with presentation skills to coordinate an interface between my organisation, clients, suppliers, and government agencies. At this point, I would also like to go in for another qualification in project implementation. This will enable me to achieve my next level of career advancement that would be an assistant project director. Here I would be reporting to a project director under whose guidance I will be able to understand different administrative task on together visualising initiating, visualising and completing a project.
At this level, I would have an opportunity to use my leanings in management analysis, vendor relation, supply chain and logistics to ensure onsite project completion. After a couple of years, I would like to take charge as the project director where in I will have the ability and the freedom to finitude different aspect of project development, implementation and completion to introduce a more leaner, dynamic and flexible approach to the way large projects are handled by my organisation. This would ensure optimal utilisation of financial, human and intellectual resources.
To conclude Singapore is a land of opportunities in which hard work, diligence and knowledge application is not only valued but treasured. The unique aspect of Singapore’s job market is different career verticals and horizontals that await bright young students each year. one of the main reasons for this is the interest shown by the government and large organisations based in Singapore to provide different avenues of employment which in turn would lead to a more intellectual and prosperous community. This in turn benefits the government and the organisations due to higher economic growth and greater purchasing power. This cycle of investment returns higher investment and higher returns make Singapore a dynamic and attractive destination for more investment.
One of the major considerations that play a pivotal role with getting placement with a renowned private or public organisation is how suitable the qualification is to the job at hand. Along with the basic qualification, you need specialised qualifications because Singapore job market has high paying jobs not in the conventional sense but in specialised fields. Most of the companies that provide opportunities in Singapore work in niche areas of finance, investment, medical and health sciences and specialised engineering domains. All of these sectors require people with specialised qualifications able to work under strict guidelines and out of the box approach. However, the remuneration offered is extremely high as compared to the regular university degree holders who work in conventional industries. Off late, Singapore has placed more emphasis on developing specialised sectors which has higher economic viability.
Psychometric test enabled me to evaluate my personality and my interaction style. Based on the results I have been able to judge the kind of environment that I would be comfortable working in along with improvements needed to make me an effective co-worker and a valuable employee. this evaluation, help me understand the complexity involved in using human resources to achieve a common goal as basically u need to form a team of individuals having their own distinct personality traits, different approaches, though processes and the style of working. Using the results of the analysis, I am able to mould myself to better suit the different individuals and gain acceptance that in turn makes me an effective manager leading to better achievement of operational matrix.
