This project provides a means for presenting the local heritage, art, and customs with a possibility for both guests and locals to get acquainted with the history of Cambridge. The project also targets socially vulnerable groups by providing employment and promoting access to culture through participation in tours and the effects of culturally oriented activities.  

At present, implementation of such master plans assumes cooperation with the local NGOs involved in the struggle against social exclusion with the view proposal of tourist and ethnocultural animation of the city. The hotel will seek for such partners who will add value to the guest experience within the context of the heritage of Cambridge. There are also ideas of walking tours of the hotel and the Grand River which enhance the attractiveness of the hotel while encouraging discovery of the region.

Financial resources will mainly come from local development firms and partly from the City of Cambridge municipality owing to its interest in cultural and economic development. Funding will also be available for heritage conservation, cooperation with social NGOs, and businesses that will receive an inflow of tourism will help these countries raise money to support the project.  

  • Response to community (social, cultural, and political)

The architecture of the boutique hotel found in the middle of the Gaslight District shapes up around the social, cultural, and political granularities of the context. Wherever socially, the project resolves the problem of exclusivity by creating job opportunities including employment and job training to the homeless, thereby promoting understanding and fighting stigma. In this case, it occupies a void in Cambridge by restoring the history, purposing venues for the exhibition of local artwork, and hosting community and culture-centric events that boost the people’s pride in their region. In this context, the hotel champions the cause of cultural tourism and economic development, which is consistent with the policies of the local administration and helps create new markets for tourism and small businesses. In these terms, the hotel fills the voids in interactions among people, cultures, and politics that is the promotion of socialization, an understanding of culture, and engagement with civic activities.
