Introduction
A leader is the one who can be approached whenever an individual faces any doubt or queries. A leader is the one who inspires and motivates the members of the team to learn more and do more for himself and for the team as well (Zaccaro, Dubrow & Kolze, 2018). A leader is the one who just not dreams about success but s/he works for the success to come. Consequently, it becomes very important as leadership helps in having a clear vision of the goals and objectives that as an individual we miss out. It also helps in better understanding of the situation and the matter that is to be done. A leader should possess good leadership skills as these plays a very crucial role for the development and growth of the individual as well as the organization (Cashman, 2017). Leadership is the art of influencing people and directing them towards the goals and objectives they need and have to acquire. It is often observed that the success of the organization generally depends on the type of the leaders they have (Antonakis & Day, 2017). Therefore, it becomes clear that the members of the team and the leaders they have are collectively responsible for the success of the leadership. It is very important that the leader is able to communicate all the information to his followers properly only then an effective team can be built.
This essay discusses about the various impact of leadership theories and the effective leadership on the human resource management, also the importance in the development of the leadership skill and the profile of the leader and leadership for change.
Traditional and current theories of leadership in hospitality
Traditional theories of leadership in hospitality sector mostly focused on the attributes that the leader had exclusively. It helped them to understand the impact that the leader had on the performance of the organization (Dinh et al., 2014). The early theories in hospitality includes great man theory and the trait theory which was based on the feature or the characteristic the leader had and the contribution made to the organization. During the 1950s and 1960s it was found that behavioral theory had a good impact on the organization and the individuals can learn from their leaders and this would help them in developing the skills they had earlier.
Then a time came which was considered as the past quarter of the theory of leadership and unlike earlier which focused more on the characteristic of leader, these leadership theories now called the contingency theory was based on the aspects that were contextual of the effectiveness of the leadership (Poornima, 2017). The people who were flexible were able to adapt the changes made by these theories. Most of the leaders in the sector of hospitality was based on transformation theory, and the effectiveness of these leaders of these type of theories were based on the personality and charisma they had which helped in establishing a very strong relationship with the followers (Conger, 2015).
It has been observed that the leadership theories were responsible for the attainment of the goals and objectives set by the organization. Most of the theories in the early times were concentrated to the features, attributes, behavior and the type of controlling a leader had (Storey, 2016). However, in the recent times it is seen that the theories used for leadership is correlation centric and it all depends on the relation and cooperation between the leaders and the followers. There were problems with certain leadership theories like the behavioral and the trait which were unable to clarify the effectiveness between the leader and the followers (Landis, Hill & Harvey, 2014).
Analyzing the effectiveness of leadership on HRM
In the management of any organization, a very crucial yet significant role is played by the HRM which stands for the Human Resource Management. It helps in increasing the productivity of the manpower and also helps in the strategic management of the organization. Therefore, it helps in increasing the performance and efficiency of the organization and the employees as well. Leadership and human resource go hand in hand. The job satisfaction of the employee is dependent on the style of leadership the organization has and promotes. It is found that the transformational type of leadership can be used to increase the job satisfaction among the employees of the organization (Holmberg, Larsson & Bäckström, 2016). However, it has been a fact that the leaders who possess a calm nature and are supportive to the employees are liked more by the employees and they feel more satisfied with the managers as well as the job they are working on. The behavior of the employees in the organization is changing frequently and it is also noticed that only money not an important factor to the employees rather the type of leadership is. There is a very vital role played by leadership in the job satisfaction of an employee. This may be due to the reason that more than the perks that are associated with the organization they need the control over their own work-lives.
Development of leadership skills
There are certain leadership skills which everyone must be aware of and try to develop these within themselves. There are many ways of developing the leadership skills within ourselves. Some of them are taking on more number of projects and facing the challenges associated with them. This skill will enable an individual to take more responsibility which will help in pulling an individual from his or her comfort zone an then make him/her learn new things probably he was unaware of till now (Holmberg, Larsson & Bäckström, 2016). Then comes the next skill which is based on learning. There is no harm if an individual doesn’t know about the topic or brief being given to him; it is important that he doesn’t carry baggage and ask whatever his/her doubt or queries are. Only then in future he will become a successful leader. A leader is the one who is able to inspire and motivate others in the group or team and this can only be possible if that person is a very good listener as well as very good communicator as this will help in communication his ideas and thoughts to the person on the other side. Resolution of conflicts among the team members is a must skill that every leader must possess and this will help the team to perform better as a whole and also the team will not be fragmented if any big issue occurs.
In this essay, the practical leader who has been taken as the leader for hospitality sector is Laurent Loudeac.
Profile of the leader
The leader taken here is Laurent Loudeac who is basically into the hospitality sector and is the head chef of the Museum Hotel in Wellington. Laurent Loudeacwas also known as Laurent Loudeac was born in the department of Loire Valle in the Northwest in Chateaubriant. There have been many leadership styles and skills that has a positive impact on the department of HR in an organization. They help in contributing effectively for the development and attainment of the goals and objectives of the organization (Sethuraman & Suresh, 2014). It also helps in facing the challenges that the organization finds difficulty in achieving. Thus, if the evaluation of leadership is done it becomes easier by the department HR to understand the scenario and tae better steps.
In this particular sector that is the hospitality sector there are certain things and skills which is a must for any leader to have an effective leadership (Sethuraman & Suresh, 2014).
It is observed that in hospitality sector and even the type of leadership chosen by Laurent Loudeac is based on the autocratic style of leadership. Autocratic leadership style is the one where the leader is responsible for making all the decision for the team alone and no concern of the members of the team is taken. The full organizational power is with them and they have a high influence on the subordinates (Nanjundeswaraswamy & Swamy, 2014).
The leader has chosen this kind of leadership because the demands in the hospitality sectors are unpredictable and nobody knows about what is going to happen at the next moment (Grint, et al., 2016). Therefore, it becomes really difficult to adopt the type of leadership that is participative in nature as the nature of work done in this industry requires a management that is strong and centralized and also have a huge control and command over the employees. The leader here is responsible for giving the details of the orders coming to them and provide them with instructions to follow for the better performance. The leader here is responsible for taking all the decisions by himself.
The people who are engaged in this sectors that is the hospitality industry, it is very important for them to have leaders who are knowledgeable and a HRM that is effective with high skillsets and qualities beneficial for the hotel. There is a huge impact of leadership skills on the HRM part as well. In this particular sector, there is a direct impact of the quality of the services that is provided to the customers on the good name and brand image of the hotel. To stay above all it is important that the leader here must find ways of keeping his employees engaged towards work and keep them motivated to give and perform their best.
The definition of leadership style can be understood as the process of interaction between the members, or the individuals that have any kind of perception ad expectations (Nanjundeswaraswamy & Swamy, 2014). The style of the leaders can be understood by the power and the behavior the leader has.
Motivation and leadership are simultaneous in nature as motivation is basically oriented towards goals and leadership is the quality which pushes and assist the management to reach and attain its goal through motivation of the employees. The employees who are motivated helps in increasing the productivity of the hotel and helps the organization to achieve more by increasing their levels of output. It becomes more crucial when it comes to hospitality sector as the employees here are needed to put extra efforts and they have to stay long than their usual hours of work. The employees of this industry have to stay more focused and determined also calm when they are serving their customers. Here, a leader that is motivational is very much required, a leader like Laurent Loudeac. He keeps promoting the work that his team does nd keep communicating with them whenever required or at the times he feels that the employees are stuck in a difficult situation. Laurent keeps on appreciating the work of his team add acknowledge them will rewards too. This also helps in developing a positive culture in the hotel as it helps in employee engagement and helps in cultivating a base or a foundation of culture in order to empower the employees of the organization (Grint, et al., 2016).
Leadership has a great impact on the field of culinary arts as this helps in getting a visionary over the strategic understanding of the future food trends. With the help of the leadership skills here, it will help in shaping the role of the employees and help them in putting their creativity and thirst for innovation into practice (Riggs & Hughey, 2011). T is important to take the members of the team out of the kitchen which would help them in building a team and also help in better learning. This also helps in expanding the horizon and helps in having a great culture of the food as art. This also helps in encouraging a lifestyle that is healthy and develops a learning for appreciating the cultures that are different and new as it is found that food is very closely intertwined with culture.
Influences of leadership on own practices
The selling of ideas and motivation to the people is very important and a leader must keep this in mind. This is considered as the key to success of leadership. It is important that the policies of management are aligned with the strategy developed by an individual. Leadership helps in the development of the personality an individual has and also it results in the development of the skills, attitudes and behavior. Leadership also helps in the enhancement of learning of an individual. Therefore, it must be understood and considered that there are various actions and situations that are responsible for making a people learn. A leader is the one who is responsible for overviewing the result that is obtained after planning (Grint, et al., 2016). They identify the resources that are available and allocate accordingly. Leadership influences and initiates actions that are required to perform. A guidance is provided and if any hurdle comes they help in mitigating those.
There are several practices which have a huge implication on the leaders and their styles. Leader is the one who enables others to act according the situation or action. This helps in the promotion of the goals that are cooperative in nature and there is a built trust between the leaders and the members of the team. This helps in strengthening of the employees after the sharing of the information and by increasing the visibility and the discretion.
Conclusion

Therefore, it acts as an effective and crucial factor for effective management. There are many challenges that are mitigated by leadership in an organization. It helps an individual to understand the vision and mission of the organization and make them enable to work on the goals and objectives of the organization. Proper communication must be maintained and the employees must be made understand about the type of work they need to follow in the organization. All the policies and plans of the organization is communicated by the leader hence a leader must have better directing and controlling skills in case if anything goes wrong.
