Purpose: to gain experience in small scale digital media production and understanding of rhetorical situation.

Description: Considering a specific rhetorical situation, create a digital media artifact that you would use for a specific purpose that conveys an argument and explain your choices using Bitzer’s 4 categories (purpose, audience, content, context) as well as usability.

Requirements:
• Idea approval from your professor

• Production must make a clear argument, have a specific purpose, meet genre expectations, and appear complete (without obvious production errors or inconsistencies)

• 500-750 word analysis (paper) of digital media production clarifying how your choices respond to a specific rhetorical situation. Make sure to integrate course concepts from readings and provide specific details in the paper (.pdf submission) from your production to illustrate the rhetorical situation your production addressed (Bitzer’s 4 categories (purpose, audience, content, context) as well as usability.)

• 5 minute, organized (intro, body, conclusion) presentation* for the class on your production clarifying the rhetorical situation for your production.

Goal: to develop a small level digital media production (image set, webspace, mash-up, etc.) in response to a specific rhetorical situation and explain that production to an audience.

Audience: In addition to your peers and your instructor, check outJUMP for your audience.

*Since your classmates will have seen your production, your job is to explain how your production is a ‘fitting response’ for an exigency you identify. When addressing the rhetorical situation, you should include your reasoning and how you developed the production.

I am not requiring presentational software, but it may help some organize and illustrate their argument. I did not require it because you all have unique presentation styles-some of you may choose presentational software like PowerPoint, Prezi, or Keynote, some of you may choose to rely on your words alone. Personally I have found that, when used effectively (for concrete illustration), presentational software can help to reach one’s audience. However, when done poorly, ugh! It can be painful. In sum-it’s up to you.

Remember, if you bring in a presentation, put it on your flash drive-not email or on your desktop. We’ve got a lot of presentations to get through. 🙂
