Introduction

 Project management plays a very important role in fulfilling the goals in a project. Usually people think that project and project management have the same meaning but they are two different terms with different meaning. A project comes with the specific objectives with the series of tasks having the start and the end dates. While on the other hand project management contains two tasks to be done under it that is of controlling and planning which help in achieving the project objectives. It includes planning, controlling, allocation of resources and monitoring. Initially both the meaning may overlap as both are oriented in the achievement of the project. But they differ in a way as project is for a long term while project management is a short term process. If the project management becomes successful then the final outcome of project will also be positive.

Andrew Munns completed his graduation from Lanchester (Conventary) Polytechnic, U.K., with a B.Sc and M.Sc in project management from a University in Scotland. Presently he is a lecturer in Dundee University, Scotland and before this he was working with the Liverpool, Polytechnic, and U.K as lecturer in building survey. He has worked as a professional advisor in the public and private sectors. His interest includes the information technology used in the construction of buildings.

Bassam F Bjeirmi is currently completing his PhD at Dundee University. He has also completed MBA in project management. He is very sharp in controlling and planning things and then leading them in his way. He is a person that can help you making decisions.

Summary

Project management has proved to be an efficient tool in handling the complex problems. It states the logical difference between the project and the project management and how they can overlap each other. It identifies the individuals involved in the project management with their goals and expectations. It discusses about the success and failure factors of project as well as project management. It also discusses about the factors that lead to the overlapping of both the terms. It gives us the immense knowledge of all the individuals responsible in the journal that is the project manager together with their team. They become the focal point of the actual responsibility. The success of project is directly related to the project management. The objectives of both the terms are different but the final goal is the same that is achieving the success of a project. Sometimes in some situations the project fails but project management gets successful. Therefore project management is important as it helps the people in achieving their project. The journal has given the success as well as the failure of implementing the project management. People who were before failing in achieving the success in their project have now achieved it to a great extent. The journal provided them with the factors that can be implied for achieving success in both the fields.

There are many contributions by the writers in the journal explaining different aspects of project and project management strategies. Kerzer, Duncan and Gorsha have stressed on the tools of project management which can help a person in achieving the project goals. Project management plays a vital role in the contribution of the success to the project. The failure of project management can be avoided by paying careful attention towards the failing factors. They say that there are some indicators of the success in a project. To overcome all these problems a perfect project planning is needed.

Lackman has discussed about the strategies that can opted by a project manager and implemented that can help in the maintenance of the objectives. These include sharing of work structure and project plans among its team members.

Kumar stressed on the implementation of the development strategies and methodologies in achieving success. A person first needs to gather sufficient information and should be aware of the project constraints and considerations. After doing this he may be able to apply the well defined strategies and try to achieve success.

Wit and Nicholas are the two writers who have told the difference in the ending point of the project and project management. They say that after delivering the work to the customer the project management process ends and not the project. They also say that a good project management can help in the achieving the project goals but it will never let the project to fail. The successful project management can be defined through careful planning of adequate quality standards resources and with a skilled project manager and with his committed team. The requirement is not only of a skilled project manager but with this quality the time of project manager is also required. In other words, if the project manager does not spend adequate time with his team discussing about the project the project may fail. The plan of project management should not be rigid, it should be flexible enough of adopting the changes taking place in the surroundings. The project can still become successful if the project management fails as project contains higher and long term objectives while project management is a short term and narrow definition.

Conclusion

The journal contains the difference between the two broad terms project and project management. It clears the people with the problem of overlapping of the two terms as to when these terms overlap and when they are a two different terms. This gives us a broad knowledge about the two. The project management should be properly planned for the success in the project goals as it just contributes to the project goals and does effect in the failure of the project. It gives us the whole theory on the success and the failure of project and project management. It tells us that the role of project manager is very important in the project management plan. A skilled project manager can lead to success in project.

Do differently?

The first point to keep in mind to start a thing differently is to getting started by keeping the category of audience in your mind and knowing the pros and cons of every situation. Every task comes with its disadvantage first and then the advantages. In other words, the disadvantage of any task should be kept in the mind first and then the advantages. As the advantages are in your hand but you should first find ways tools and techniques of removing the disadvantages.

What did we learn?

Through the journal we can clearly understand about the difference between the project and project management. Project management can just be used as a helping hand in the process of achieving a project goal but a person cannot depend on it for the sure success. A good project management will help or will contribute in the goals while they will not restrain from achieving the success. The right project will always succeed even if the project management planning is not good. Therefore the project management will never restrain you in achieving your goals. Selecting the right skilled project manager can contribute to a success in your project goals.
