Organizational Behavior Management Assignment help on : Innovation and creativity

Organizational Behavior Management Assignment help on : Innovation and creativity

1. Introduction

Team based concept is growing globally at organizations because it is helping to explore business all across the globe with innovation and creativity.  There are many multinationals which are entering into host countries by creating cross functional teams. As Drucker has stated that managers cannot be expected to know what their teams have been doing in detail therefore in such situations individual members of team should be made clear about their duties and responsibilities which will help teams to get the work done in a successful manner.  There are teams where members do not contribute equally and engage themselves in social loafing process by wasting the precious time (Mind Tools Ltd      2013).   Teams can be successfully engaged in productive work by dividing and distributing the jobs according to competencies of team members.

2. Discussion (For & Against)

As a Team Leader, I believe that there are points in favor of team work. It helps in creating an environment which supports likeminded people for achieving same goals. Teams can be created for specific period of time which can enhance factors such as creativity, innovation and etc.  It has been observed that Teams help in creating balance between poor and good performers.  Management of an organization has a perception that teams maximizes productivity, improves communication, unites diverse talented people within organizations and virtually, solves problem by brainstorming process,  improves the process, and helps in using resources in a smarter manner.   There are many points which are against towards working in teams. At times, teams are unsuccessful because the members involve in conflicts and social loafing process which dilutes vision and mission of team as well as of organizations (Hearst Communications, Inc        2013). The discrimination takes place in terms of race, gender, religion, language, socio economic backgrounds and etc. Team members start to compare share of each other’s contribution in terms performance in a team.  The conflict of interest arises and team members start to blame each other because they generate feeling that they are less important.

  1. A.     Drucker view of Management & Leadership

Peter Drucker has been defined as the father of modern management.  He stated that effective management is key to success and leadership was not considered much by him. Drucker was known as a leader in the field of management. In his initial stage of life he focused more upon management and ignored Leadership (The Drucker Institute      2013).   In his later stage of life he stated that Leaders are those who have an ability to take higher risks by framing appropriate decisions and show direction to people. He also explained that leadership is a process of doing right things where as management is an art of getting things in a right manner. According to me, he believed that management moves around mission, vision and strategic goals.  There is no replacement of Leadership because management cannot create leaders because only qualities and skills related to Leaders can be imitated by team members and employees of an organization (Sussex Publishers LLC      2013).

  1. B.     Sector or Industry being focused

In this project I have focused upon Nestle. It has been chosen as an industry which is operating in more than 80 countries of Globe. It is a FMCG company that is providing good health and life to consumers globally by its quality products. Nestle has been operating by creating cross cultural teams. This industry demands Leaders who can understand business with aspects such as polycentric, ethnocentric, and geocentric approach.  The demands on a Leader in such industries are to meet changes in-terms of customer demand, technology, culture, fluctuations in the economies, and managing organizational changes. In such organizations Leaders must have management skills, technical skills, communication skills, Negotiation and people management skills (Mind Tools Ltd      2013).

  1. C.     Situation where view is relevant and suitable

This view is relevant for Nestle when strategic planning is being framed for expanding business globally.  This process will help Leaders of team to get desired output by integrating all process and policies at Nestle. It is an organization which is known for its ethical conduct. It will help me as a Team Leader to direct human behavior for managing business of Nestle at. This view of management also states that expectations and requirements of people should be met because it helps in moving Nestle and its team ahead of others by creating a competent edge over the competitors (Forbes.com Inc     2006).  It is a concept which states that management is a subject which is applicable to all organizations and based upon dimensions such as sociology, psychology and legal aspects.   It helps in recognizing people and their performance at Nestle by rewarding them for individual and team based performance. There is an example of Virgin group which has successfully diversified into many sectors such as airline, hotels and aviation industries because CEO Mr. Richard Branson believed that management takes place by moving around people. Cross functional teams have been created to manage airlines business at Virgin group. Thus according to me Sir Richard Branson developed leadership skills for effectively managing business at Virgin Group.

  1. D.     Situation where view is not relevant

At times this view of management fails because most of the time managers of Leaders lack knowledge regarding how to manage cross functional teams in an effective manner. Before entering into any of the host countries multinationals team leaders should have knowledge in terms of technology, political environment, and cross cultural management.  The team leaders fail to adapt local culture of host country.   In many of organizations it fails because team leaders and managers engage themselves in day to day activities and forget about the long term goals.  One few top team leaders are being involved in the decision making process rest others are ignored.  It fails in such organizations where effective performance management system is not applicable. Organizations such as Daewoo Motors have been failing because of its mismanagement by team leaders.

  1. E.     Examples of Leader supporting analysis

Organizations such as IBM, Accenture, Nestle and Virgin group have been operating on basis of team based structure in host countries all across the globe. Cross cultural Teams have been created in such organizations to handle projects for specific period of time. It has been enhancing creativity and innovation. Paul Bulcke CEO of nestle & Sir Richard Branson from Virgin Group has been ensuring that work designs are created in such manner which helps all team members to engage themselves (Nestlé UK Ltd     2013).  It will help in resolving conflicts because rewards will be distributed in fair manner.  It is been monitored by the Team leaders regarding individual performance of all team members. The team members have been united by developing cohesiveness within them.  In such organizations according to me Team leaders have been managing work efficiently and effectively.

F.Model of Leadership and Management

Sir Richard Branson can be related with Hersey & Blanchard Model of Leadership. He believed in applying four qualities of this model such as being participative by sharing ideas, delegating work among team members by framing appropriate decisions, selling by explaining decisions taken by Richard Branson for Virgin Group and telling by giving instructions to all team leaders Leader’s and its members. Strategic Management model was being applied by Branson at Virgin Group to diversify his business into several segments. It included several steps such as identifying mission, objectives, analyzing situations, framing strategies, applying it and controlling.

3. Conclusion

Thus as a Team Leader it can be concluded by me that both management and leadership is required at organizations. A manager cannot be a leader but a leader can have the managerial qualities. Team based concept is growing popularly in modern times because it provides multinationals ample of opportunities and benefits. The advantages and disadvantages of team are being highlighted. Drucker’s view of management and Leadership has been highlighted regarding management cannot create leaders but only leadership qualities can be integrated within managers of an organization.  The proper delegation of works among team members in equal ratio has grown organizations such as Nestle, virgin group immensely by diversifying their business. This view of management is suitable when multinationals try to enter into host countries and operated on the basis of cross cultural teams.  This view of management fails when leaders are unable to manage conflicts among the team members.  The Leaders such as Paul Bulcke and Sir Richard Branson has been chosen as the effective Leaders who has been demonstrating managerial and leadership qualities for creating and edge over their competitors.
